State of the Mets Address 5/20/19: Cespedes fractures both ankles

Ever feel like this is the Mets Organization?

I was watching the Mets press conference with Brodie and he just drops the Cespedes injury like it was nothing. Cespedes fractured bit of his ankles which are attached to his surgically fixed heels. This is crazy. Now I still think the extra years of Cespedes the Mets signed to a contract sucked and this makes it even more sure that I was right.

Mickey then got on the mic and said how they were sitting down Cano because he needs a rest and also has to be held accountable on the field to run out hits. (Let's not forget the last time Cano ran in the field he might have give Conforto a concussion.)

I was thinking about going to the game today until I saw FONT in these notes..

@citifield is allowing clear plastic backpacks

I guess the Mets realized folks like backpacks and are letting the plastic backpacks into the stadium. The other thing that’s going to happen with the locker company that are going to be set  up outside when they go to ah d out plastic bags for the contents of your bag(lockers aren’t big enough to fit a full backpack) with the plastic bag ban that’s coming to NYC...

Who thought Cano was going to suck?

From the NY POST.
Manager Mickey Callaway defended the veteran second baseman, who on Friday lost track of the outs and didn’t run from the batter’s box on a grounder back to the pitcher — allowing the Marlins to turn an inning-ending double play. Cano blamed the scoreboard at Marlins Park that incorrectly stated there were already two outs.  The Mets lost the game, 8-6.

With the Mets reeling, in a three-game losing streak that had pushed their record to 20-23 entering Saturday, Callaway could have benched Cano to send the player and the team a message. But the manager chose not to take such drastic action.

“It’s not about sending messages, it’s about doing what’s right and what’s wrong,” Callaway said before the Mets faced the Marlins. “We talked about it, and he understands that can’t happen again. You don’t just reprimand people to send a message to the rest of the team. You do things for the right reason. I think the team all understands what happened, and I know Robbie does and he has that expectation that can’t happen again.”
Cano said, “I have been running hard the whole year,” Cano said. “In that situation, like anybody, I made a mistake, but it’s not my mistake: It’s two outs on the board, so that is why I didn’t run it out. I don’t see why there’s a big deal about it when you guys have seen me all year run it out.

“I am the first one here to be ready, and I am always the one here to motivate this team. I will be the last guy not running out anything.
“If I knew it was two outs, it’s a different story for me. I would have run my ass off.”
Read more here.

Who cold have predicted that Cano would be a bad trade? But we got Diaz. Great. Cano would have run his ass off? When has he ever run his ass off? Was it to try to avoid the PED suspension? The Mets need to be in the position to win to be able to use Diaz the right way. Btw talking about negatives, Frazier now jawing with fans after he's been crappy for the last season and most of this season? Come on dude. Who did you think you were yelling at? Did you think it was @metspolice?

McNeil should be at third. Rosario(if he gets his act together) at short. Lowrie should be at second if they ever find him in witness relocation program, Alonso at first and Ramos most of the time catching. I guess Mets  go with Gomez, Nimmo, and Conforto until the other guy Cespedes is found with Lowrie.

Want to find out what Keith Hernandez is thinking about this team? You can come to QBC's Lunch with Keith Hernandez on June 15th at @mikkellernyc. Sponsored by Mikkeller and @SNYtv, Lunch with Keith is going to be a fun intimate experience. METS AND SONY TEAM UP FOR SEINFELD’S 30thANNIVERSARY BRINGING “SEINFELD NIGHT” TO CITI FIELD ON JULY 5

METS AND SONY TEAM UP FOR SEINFELD’S 30thANNIVERSARY
BRINGING “SEINFELD NIGHT” TO CITI FIELD ON JULY 5

FLUSHING, N.Y., MAY 16, 2019 – In honor of Seinfeld’s 30th anniversary, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and the New York Mets announced today a new partnership that will bring “Seinfeld Night” to Citi Field. Jerry Seinfeld and Keith Hernandez will reunite for a day about nothing on July 5, 2019 (30 years to the day of the premiere of the iconic show on NBC) when the Mets host the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m. This kicks off a series of initiatives in New York as part of SPT’s yearlong celebration of the 30th anniversary of Seinfeld.

The Mets will kick off the night with a Jerry Seinfeld co-branded bobblehead, available to the first 25,000 fans who arrive at the ballpark.

Fans are encouraged to watch every episode before they arrive, from The Chinese Restaurant to The Hamptons, as attendees will be tested on their Seinfeld knowledge with trivia hosted by lifelong Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld. In addition, the infamous Soup Nazi, Larry Thomas, will be on hand greeting fans on the concourse.

“Two of my favorite things in all the world are the comedy arts and my New York Mets. This is one moment that I am very happy to have my ‘Worlds Collide’!” said Jerry Seinfeld.

“This is an exciting announcement for us,” Executive Vice President & Chief Revenue Officer for the Mets Lou DePaoli said. “Seinfeld and the Mets are a natural fit and we are extremely happy to be able to put this together. Our fans are going to love what we have in store for them, so giddy up!”

“The Mets celebrating Seinfeld is the quintessential New York experience,” said Sony Pictures Television’s President First Run Television John Weiser. “Everyone watching the game will have a great time enjoying their favorite show and team.”

Tickets for “Seinfeld Night” are now available at mets.com/seinfeld. In addition, special V.I.P ticket packages with exclusive benefits will be announced at a later date.

Seinfeld airs weeknights at 11 and 11:30 p.m. on PIX11.

MLB Commissioner Manfred seems to not care about MLB Fans.

Good to see it's not just the Yankees and Mets owners that sometimes don't care about their fans trekking to the ballpark is shitty rainy weather with their families and friends. I'll give kudos to the Mets for doing the right day when they postponed the Mother's Day game to August because of the rain. That was a great move. Now the league attendance is down. As @Metspolice has stated the MLB has no real stars. What saved baseball in the 90's after the labor strife? It was guys like McGwire and Sosa with what was basically a season long Home Run Derby brought the masses back. What is the MLB doing to make stars?

From the NY Post.
Manfred fired off a response letter a day after Councilman Justin Brannan (D-Brooklyn) suggested that MLB implement a new policy requiring umpires to call games once rain delays stretch more than an hour beyond the scheduled first pitch.
“The challenge that we face in scheduling and rescheduling is fitting each club’s 162 games into a span of 186 days, affording very few mutual off days for makeup games…,” wrote Manfred.

“We have a strong desire to play games as scheduled in order to complete our season on time and limit the demanding travel often associated with makeup games. For those reasons and others, a one-hour maximum rain delay before a postponement is impractical.”

Brannan’s office is also currently researching whether the City Council has legislative authority to require New York’s baseball teams — the Mets and Yankees — make its rain delay policies more fan friendly, The Post first reported Tuesday.

Stranger Things Night at Citi Field 7/6/19

I have no idea what makes this a Stranger Things night...

A @QBConvention Must Read. Queens Baseball Club Undergoes Name Change to Flushing Meadows Baseball Club.

This is a very interesting story.

Since Yahoo Sports announced their plan to launch their new service as the Queens Baseball Club, Dan and I have received dozens of emails, texts, messages, asking how this new QBC was affiliated with our QBC. Now that Yahoo has announced their name change we have been approached asking if we were involved. Rather than have someone else tell our story we wanted to let you all know directly. Below are the articles that talk about the name change.

From the NY Post.
The Mets’ season might be over before Yahoo gets its new paid site started. As one of the Mets’ former managers supposedly once said, “It gets late early here.”
While it was originally announced as the Queens Baseball Club, it is now called The Flushing Meadows Baseball Club. No official reason was given for the name change.
Yahoo will still try to entice people with some insider benefits to go along with its Mets coverage.
“We are working to perfect the product, Flushing Meadows Baseball Club, while it is in closed Beta,” a Yahoo spokesperson said. “We will be launching for all Mets fans very soon.”
The Yahoo Mets site was supposed to be up and ready for business on Opening Day. It was first delayed as it and the Mets waited for MLB’s approval. Now it is just trying to get everything right.
You can read more here.

From Barret Sports Media
Before the 2019 MLB season began, the New York Mets and Yahoo announced that they would partner on a pay site that would cover the team and provide exclusive videos, podcasts and stories. More than a month into the season, the site is still yet to see the light of day.
The site was originally set to be called Queens Baseball Club. According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, one of the results of the delay is a name change. The site will now be called Flushing Meadows Baseball Club. As for when it debuts, that is still yet to be determined.
The initial delay was for the Mets and Yahoo to receive the blessing of Major League Baseball. Now that it has been secured though, there is still no sign of Flushing Meadows Baseball Club on the internet.

Read more here.

In complete transparency on this subject.

We have both word marks trademarked. We brought this up to Yahoo when we found out about their Queens Baseball Club and about how similar it was to our trademarks and our brand. We have worked hard at elevating our brand of QBC/Queens Baseball Convention over the last six years and were at first bewildered at the announcement. Yahoo, my partner Dan and myself had numerous phone calls to try to work something out. Yahoo decided that they didn't want to confuse our brands and decided to change their name. Yahoo could see what the QBC means to us and our fellow Mets fans and didn't want to come in and not do the right thing. It is refreshing to see a big corporation come in and try to work with the "little guy".Dan and myself appreciate that they took their time to find a different name that makes their new endeavor stand out and we wish them all the best and look forward to subscribing to their Flushing Meadows Baseball Club when it is launched.

Once again thank you to all our fellow fans who support our QBC/Queens Baseball Convention.

Mets Season Ticket Holder Perk Name on Dugout.

The Mets were all proud of this perk for being a season ticket holder. They put your name on top of the dugout. That’s all fine and dandy until as a season ticket holder you actually want to go down and see it. The problem with this is that the dugout is in the premium section where you can’t get down theee unless you have a ticket even before game times. I get that the folks who pay for their seats down there pay a pretty good penny for the seats and some folks would try to stay down there without tickets for that section. Here’s the problem though. How are the season ticket holders supposed to see their names on the dugout? The Mets told me well there is a replica one in the Season Ticket Plan Holders lounge. Problem with that is it’s not an exact replica and it also not on the dugout. Another suggestion was to reach out to your rep and they can walk you down. What if your rep is off or can’t make it down to walk you down? I have a few good suggestions for this.

Give a certain amount of time before the game to let the plan holders down to see it. Have either two greeters  or a two account reps work the section. Have one at up top to look at your ticket and have one by the dugout to make sure no one steps up on the dugout to try to snap a pic and to make sure folks stay down there for a few mins and then get sent back up top.

How about doing a digital print for the plan holders. One where they can download it so they don’t have to take a pic?

It just amazes me how the Mets can still not think ahead on how to figure out what might be a problem or not in the future especially with stuff they can control. One of the answers I got from the Mets were “Management is working on it”. How do you not see this as a possible problem with this kind of perk? God damn you guys can be so aggravating  at times.

The @Mets did a great job yesterday with the rainout.

I want to give the Mets kudos for calling the rainout as early as they did on Mother’s Day yesterday. We as fans have been so conditioned to expect the Mets to wait until folks are at the game sitting in the stands for a while before they call the game and send folks home. They didn’t do that yesterday. They let folks know in a timely manner so if you were going to the game for Mother’s Day with your Mom and family that you could make alternate plans. Again, good job Mets.

@QBConvention (QBC, Queens Baseball Convention) Present Lunch with Keith Hernandez

Hey Folks,

We have been asked numerous times if we would do another QBC event that wasn't in January. We have come up with one. Keith Hernandez really wanted to come out to the QBC in January but with his back issues and then having to have back surgery he missed it. Dan and I asked Keith if he would be interested in doing something during the season and he said of course. We have decided on Saturday June 15th at Noon at a very convenient location for fans to go to the game later that night. We will reveal the ticket price, location, what you get with buying a ticket, etc. either on Monday or Tuesday. Like we said this isn't our traditional QBC but a much more intimate and less crowded event. We are only going to have 150 tickets available for the event. Hope you join us.

@mets new backpack policy part 2

I got of the phone with Fan relations  of the Mets. The guy I talked to is the “guy” when it comes to guest fan experience. The Mets realize that this is a nightmare right now and are going to try their best to have this experience be less of a pain then we all feel like it’s going to be. They think that the backpacks and security checking all the pockets is what is slowing down the lines and they see the lines being a bad thing not just for fans on line but possible safety. They don’t want to be a non friendly stadium but it seems like MLB is going to start trending this way. They said they are going to keep re evaluating this as it progresses and they realize the NFL has a similar policy but they also know the NFL isn’t a Monday through Friday sport also.

My question is now, if the Mets are worried about safety and  the long lines, what do they do with the long unsafe bobble head lines? Someone who wanted to do something bad doesn’t need to go through a metal detector or get denied wearing a backpack walking around the exterior of the stadium. How do they fix this?
