Goon here- This keeps blowing my mind. The fact that auction houses and eBay sellers price the QBC Unforgettable Fire awards so high really does blow my mind. The Tom Seaver one went for over $400, might have even been $600 and the buy it now price for this Payson one is $910? WOW. Full transparency though this is the one time we made two awards at the request of the family so both the grandson and granddaughter could have one. No idea which one this is.

The Politics of the Mets Irish Heritage Night Jersey

 By Dan Twohig

Well, you know if I am back writing here on TheMediagoon.com the Mets have done something stupid with an Irish promotion.

A few years back it was the racist leprechaun hats for St. Paddy’s Day — mercifully retired, may they rest in a landfill somewhere. But now the Mets have gone and stumbled into actual Irish politics.

The good news first: August 28th is Irish Heritage Night at Citi Field, and that’s genuinely great. I remember Irish nights at Shea, standing there listening to Black 47 — if you don’t know them, go look them up. They’ve since retired, but Shilelagh Law is taking the stage this year, and honestly, no complaints there. I like them.

Buy a special ticket, you get a special Irish-themed jersey. Naturally, I had to take a look.

Green? Good. Can’t argue with green. The Celtic-style font is nicely done, and the Celtic scroll around the sleeves is a genuinely nice touch — somebody in the design room knew what they were doing.

And then there’s the number.

26.

Not good, folks. Not good at all.

But Dan, it’s obviously the year. It’s 2026.

Yeah, I get it. But pair “26” with anything Irish and you’ve wandered — unknowingly, I’m sure — straight into a political minefield. Here’s the quick history lesson nobody at the Mets front office apparently got: Ireland is made up of 32 counties, same idea as our states. Twenty-six of them make up the free Republic of Ireland. The other six are still part of the UK. Put “26” on an Irish-themed jersey, and whether you meant to or not, you’re making a statement that you support a divided Ireland.

I will absolutely give the Mets the benefit of the doubt here – I don’t think this was intentional. I’d bet real money the intern who mocked this jersey up had no idea. Neither did the boss who signed off. Neither did that boss’s boss. Nobody, it seems, thought to Google “Ireland 26” — because if they had, this exact issue is the very first thing that pops up.

I love that Irish Heritage Night is back. I love pieces of this jersey design — genuinely, the font and the scrollwork are well done. But I won’t be wearing it, because of what it accidentally says and symbolizes.

Come on, Mets. Do better. It’s not that hard to check.

Why Most New York Mets Fans Rejected Citi Field at First | TFC Stadiums

I was going through YouTube the other night and came across this video about Citi Field. Its interesting.

Citi Field opened in 2009 as the modern replacement for Shea Stadium, but the New York Mets’ new home immediately faced criticism. Its architecture appeared to celebrate Ebbets Field and the Brooklyn Dodgers more prominently than Mets history, while its enormous outfield dimensions frustrated hitters and changed how games were played. Over the following years, the Mets repeatedly altered the stadium. The outfield walls were moved inward, the fences were changed to Mets blue, franchise memorabilia was added throughout the building, and new spaces helped Citi Field develop an identity of its own. This video follows the full history of Citi Field, from the effort to replace Shea Stadium and the controversial financing arrangement to the stadium’s construction, opening season, design problems, postseason moments and major upgrades under Steve Cohen. We also look at the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, the Home Run Apple, the 2015 World Series, Citi Field’s enormous new scoreboard and the larger transformation now taking place around Willets Point. What do you think of Citi Field today? Has it become one of Major League Baseball’s better modern stadiums, or does it still lack the character of Shea Stadium? The Morose of the Mets Fan

                                                 created by Grok

What is worse than a losing team? A team that looks like it has no spark to it. What is worse than Mets fans booing that team that doesn't have any spark? Fans not showing up to the park because of the team with no spark. Even before the sell off this week, Mets fans had given up on the team. It is one thing when the team might lose because they just aren't playing well, hit a rough spot, or losing to a better team. It is totally another thing when the Mets play with no passion, give no hope that this team could turn around, this team is like a teenager going through their feelings where they just don't care about things that don't interest them.

This team's payroll was crazy high but it reminds me of a Hollywood movie production where they might over spend on. project and during editing they realize they aren't going to make their money back and shelve it for the insurance money. It's a shame that the Mets players seemed like they didn't care being on the field or being paid to play a game. I do feel like that came from the top though. The Baseball Ops folks don't seem like they have any passion for the game and it filtered down all the way down through the organization.

I also realized this team could have been assembled the way it was because of the impending labor issues after the season when the CBA expires. No one know how the next CBA is going to be structured. Will there be a salary cap and salary floor? Will there be provisions so there can't be 50 players on a team getting deferred paydays? I think Stearns was hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with the team he had this season and it just didn't work so there was a sell off.

The Mets organization has broken the fans again. If there is a lockout(there more than likely will be) will the fans come back? Is baseball going to be fundamentally different after this time? Seriously, baseball has already lost its popularity to other sports couple that with the Mets sucking and the possible lockout, what is going to happen with this team's fans.

I even have checked out for the most part. I want to not but between the organization making it hard to deal with going to a stadium parking wise and the way a lot of things are done at the stadium it has become a chore to go to the games. It feels like I should be getting paid to go to "work" when I go to a game.

If I didn't have this blog, the QBC, and go to games with the7line, I don't know how many games I would have gone to this season.
