I don't know how to feel about the Correa signing.

I remember the other night that when I saw that the Giants balked at Correa's physical and I was like "Woah. I never heard of this before on such a big deal." Then I hear that the Mets signed him. I had know idea how to feel about the deal. Yeah it was great that a player like that then slipped to the Mets but what did San Francisco see in the reports/physical? Why did Boras slide to the Mets to get it done so quickly? I was watching so many peeps on Twitter jumping up and down in joy about the deal and what did I feel? I felt nothing. I was trying to think is it because I have I been broken by previous Mets luck with signings? Maybe I am just used to the other shoe dropping? Maybe I just don't know how to act with the Mets making multiple big league signings? Who knows?

How do you guys feel?

Some MLB owners upset at Mets spending

I have been seeing stories in various publications that some MLB Owners are getting annoyed at the spending that Steve Cohen is doing this off season. That it's not fair that teams can't be competitive with the Mets spending. Man, that sure sucks for them. What about the team owners that don't spend the money from the central fund or cable deals back into the teams instead of their pockets. Now don't get me wrong, I think the money that is getting tossed around by owners to players is totally insane. It's not just the Mets spending absurd amounts of money to restock their teams. If you can't afford to own a MLB team then don't own one.

You might be able to buy a Lamborghini but if you don't have the money for insurance, DMV fees, and maintenance then maybe you shouldn't own one.

METS SIGN ALL-STAR CATCHER OMAR NARVÁEZ

METS SIGN ALL-STAR CATCHER OMAR NARVÁEZ

FLUSHING, N.Y., December 22, 2022 – The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed catcher Omar NarvĂĄez to a one-year contract with a player option for 2024.

NarvĂĄez, 30, spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. The left-handed hitter owns a career mark .268/.345/.406 hitter against right-handers. NarvĂĄez hit a career-high 22 homers and had a career-high .813 OPS for the Mariners in 2019.

“We are excited to bring Omar to New York,” said Mets General Manager Billy Eppler. “Omar has contact ability and solid approach at the plate, and his left-handed bat fits our roster well. Additionally, the defensive skill and experience he brings behind the plate will be great additions for the Mets and our pitching staff.”

The 5-11, 240-pounder was an All-Star in 2021, finishing the year with a .266/.342/.402 slashline with 11 home runs and 49 RBI in 123 games. NarvĂĄez batted .206/.292/.305 in 84 games last season, compiling 21 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 23 RBI and 29 walks. According to Baseball Savant he ranked seventh in the majors last year in framing pitches.

Over his seven-year major league career, he has hit .258/.343/.386 with 212 runs, 76 doubles, two triples, 51 home runs, 191 RBI, 223 walks and a .728 OPS in 600 career games with the White Sox, Mariners and Brewers.

The Venezuelan native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the White Sox.

Old Grouch’s take on Correa signing

Good morning,

Please forward to the Mets front office and Mr. Cohen. Thank you.

I guess I should be happy. But this does not feel right. It feels unseemly and might destroy Baseball. How can smaller markets compete? Why should their fans buy tickets or watch? If I was a fan in a small market I would  move on to a sport with a salary cap.

I waited a very long time for the Mets to be the top team in New York. But this is not the lovable Mets. This is just a rich man just trying to get his way like Bezos or Musk. Who wants to root for that?

I appreciate Mr. Cohen but I think he is misguided. The other teams are his partners not competitors. Why would other teams fans buy tickets when Mr. Cohen has made the playing field lopsided for the Mets?

They call it the Cohen tax. The next union contract they will call it the Cohen salary cap.

Thank you for reading,
Old Grouch

Goon here- my only comment about this email is about the Owners being partners and not competitors. The other owners even small market teams make good money from the central fund and television deals. There are someone owners that have money but don’t field a competing team. That’s not good for the sport.

I like the fact that the Mets are finally making that extra move to go over the top unlike the previous regime which always needed that one extra player to put them over the edge. I just don’t know if this is overkill. Old Grouch is right though, let’s see how this team gels.

Mets Away Scherzer Replica Jersey

I went to Dick’s Sporting Goods At Roosevelt Field yesterday and I noticed they were selling replica away jerseys.  You almost never see away jerseys being sold at retail. I saw home, road, blue alt, but no black jerseys. I asked one of the associates if they had any black jerseys or sold any. They said they had them during the season but they didn’t sell well and didn’t restock them.

I thought folks wanted them back and were ready to by them? Anyone have sales figures on the Mets jerseys from last season?
