MLB THE SHOW '16 NEW FEATURES

The Developers talk new features on the SHOW 16...

COUNTDOWN

Time is ticking down. Only a handful more days to the season starts. Of course it wouldn't be the Mets if there wasn't some sort of problem going down. Matt Harvey had a mystery ailment that became a blood clot in his bladder. Joke's were made, there were sighs of relief and some folks even got of the ledges they were perched on a day before. As Mets fans, let us try to enjoy the build up to Sunday. Start chatting about the road opener and who is going to start the first game at home a few days later. Missed your fellow fans? There are plenty of places to meet up and hang out for the game. Guys, we are so close to having that sport we love back for real....You ready? Tell me what you guys are doing to get ready for this season....

CITIFIELD/COKE CORNER UPGRADES

From MLB.COM Click the link to see the video...
FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The boards are bouncy and unforgiving, like schoolyard basketball rims or carnival milk cartons. But, boy, what a view. Of all the new things to do and experience at Citi Field this year -- and the Mets have added many, a window of major marketability flung open by their sudden 2015 success -- the most mesmerizing may be the renovations made to a familiar spot. High atop the 300-section in right field, the Mets unveiled their sparkling new patio and interactive area to the media Wednesday. The Coca-Cola Corner, rebranded fully after the Mets' six-year relationship with Pepsi ended in November, inspires images of both tailgate and funhouse, all bathed in bright red. Planning and design had been in the works for about six months. All ticketed guests (for any section) are welcome to enjoy the area. "The destination, the hangout, the social spot of the ballpark," is how Chloe Stewart, creative action manager for Coca- Cola, described it. It's certainly unlike any other ballpark space in baseball. The Coca-Cola Corner offers: • Eight full field-turf corn-hole boards, branded with Coca-Cola logos, and accompanying bags (and a high level of difficulty) • A brick patio featuring couches and luxury seating with pillows and sofa tables • A custom-made, 13-feet tall, all red triple-Adirondack chair that faces the field at the corner's entrance and is designed to resemble three standing Coke bottles • A 4K ultra high-definition multi-screen touch display that will feature both a virtual home run derby game and a live social media tracker, using Microsoft Kinect technology • And, of course, a 26x84-foot Coca-Cola full color LED script sign hanging over the area, replacing the Pepsi Porch sign that stood there from 2009-2015. The new sign is the second largest freeform display in Major League Baseball, and it is equipped with the ability to display lighting, graphic and content effects on its own and in tandem with the main stadium scoreboard. "It can be fully animated and we can make it do almost anything we want," said Mets executive vice president and chief revenue officer Lou DePaoli. "When we hit a home run, you're going to see certain animation run through the Coca-Cola sign. When we win a game, you'll see certain animation. When Syndergaard is pitching, and he strikes somebody out, you may see thunderbolts blasting through the sign for Thor." The Mets also revealed alterations to the in-game fan experience and the continuation of popular promotions from last season. During the fifth inning of every game, a police car, a yellow taxi, a truck and a town car will race in similar style to the sausages in Milwaukee.et

NEW FOOD AT CITIFIELD

From NY.EATER.COM

Stadium dining just got flipped on its head and turned inside-out. Ladies and gentlemen, we're through the looking glass.

The fourth location of David Chang's wildly popular fried chicken sandwich restaurant Fuku is landing at Citi Field next week. The Fuku stand will be on the First Level Concourse, adjacent to Section 102. The menu will include the spicy fried chicken sandwich, fries, Fuku fingers, and Milk Bar cookies. The stand will be open during all Citi Field events, and it will be ready on opening day, April 8

---I really feel that CitiField is trying to ruin my diet....

METS SOLD PIAZZA 9/11 JERSEY

I'm listening to Boomer and Carton and they are talking about how the Mets sold the Mike Piazza Game after 9/11 Home Run jersey in a private auction a few years ago. The collector who bought it lent it to the Mets Museum for a few years and now has it up for auction at an action house in NJ.

Now I am not going to kill the collector for buying/selling it, but what were the Mets thinking selling this? Why wasn't this held by the team as part of the Mets history? It really was typical Mets move, where they really don't care about their own history and let's stuff like this slip through their fingers.

I also don't know if this was part of the game used memorabilia that disappeared during that whole debacle where a lot of stuff vanished and was sold under the radar. So, I kind of don't want to 100% kill the Mets, but come on.

Maybe the Mets will bid on this to get it back. Maybe another collector will buy it and lend it to Cooperstown.

Now this info is all from the Boomer and Carton show, so I am sure not all the details were talked about but from what I heard, yuck.

NEW BAR AT MCU BALLPARK

From the Coney Island Blog- According to owner James Quigley, “Steeplechase Beer Garden will be paying full homage to George C. Tilyou’s Steeplchase Park (1897-1964), along with the all too familiar “Funny Face” logo. Steeplechase Park was the longest running and most influential park in the history of Coney Island. It’s fitting that the new restaurant and beer garden will be on the original Steeplechase property.” Expect a new menu with additional pub fare, a new assortment of beer and live music in the Coney Island tradition. Steeplechase Beer Garden will be having their grand opening on Friday, May 6th.

NON METS REVIEW: BATMAN V. SUPERMAN

I am going to take a break now and then from writing about the Mets and baseball things and review, comment, maybe even vent on other things that I enjoy. That is what this blog was originally built on before I ever wrote a post for Metspolice.com. I was trying my hand at this blogging thing and then got sucked into helping run MP. Well, let my first non Mets post on TheMediaGoon in many years be about........the suckitude known as Batman v. Superman.

This movie was bloated. The story made very little sense. I still don't like the dour emo Superman. Where is the the guy with the S shield that gives hope to the world? He is supposed to combat the xenophobia of the world by pushing through it saving lives and fighting the good fight. The whole dynamic between his mom, dad, and Clark not wanting to help people is ridiculous

. The Lex Luthor character felt like he was channeling the Joker and not being the alien hating, power hungry, cold, calculating business man we all know. He is way too manic. They do show how ruthless he can be, but he's unhinged in this flick.

Wonder Woman. I think she might be the best part of the film. Only problem is that she is too underused in it. I am really hoping because Zack Snyder isn't directing the Wonder Woman film that it turns out great. She is probably one of the best known super heroes who keeps getting one of the most horrible treatments and I would love for her to break through and be the Star of the DC film universe.

Doomsday. NO NEED FOR HIM TO BE IN THIS MOVIE. They could have basically put in the Parasite and it would have worked the same.

Batman. The Bat Suit was awesome. The Iron Bat suit was less awesome. I also don't think Batman would be played like he was by folks in this movie. He's the world's greatest detective for Christ's sakes. Why isn't he ever portrayed that way? The film over all was very boring. The CGI was meh. The fight scenes were pretty good. Batman kills people. We get to see the Wayne's die again. Also, how does he not know about the Metahumans that are out and about but Luthor does??
And, now because of this, I went from maybe wanting to see The Suicide Squad to not really caring. I tried to be as vague as possible in this post as to not give away too much, but God this movie blew.

The story itself was very forced and the Justice League members seemed crowbarred in. I know WB wants to build their own cinematic universe but this was not necessary in the movie. Could have easily been put into a tag at the end of the movie.

NEW PIZZA AT CITI FIELD

So this is another Danny Meyer joint- From Eater.com
The pizzas will be Neopolitan-style "with a touch of New York flair," according to a Union Square Hospitality Group officials. Toppings will be "straightforward" and regionally sourced. More details and the full menu will be released next week.
For more read here. Does this mean Two Boots is out? I know they said that this will be near all the other Danny Meyer kiosks like Blue Smoke, Shake Shack, Box Frites, etc..Italian Ices? I am surprised Lemon Ice King didn't get into the ballpark somehow to go along with Mama's of Corona.

METS WEEKEND GAME START TIMES

You guys mind that there aren't any Saturday 1:10 pm starts? I don't. I actually love it. I prefer the 4pm/7pm start times on a Saturday. Now hear me out. I know it doesn't work for everyone but for folks like me its beautiful. I work crazy hours. With my job, I could be getting in at 6am on Saturday morning from working the day before. I used to have to drag my tired ass to Flushing on maybe 4/5 hours sleep. Now, my whole morning is devoted to sleep. My afternoon is going to my "backyard" and enjoying my favorite thing to do in the summer, watching baseball. With the later start times I can get some sleep, do some errands, not be baked in the intense afternoon summer sun, and take my time going to the ballpark. I know it doesn't work for all of you, but I am okay with it. Now the flip side of this is the Sunday games. Most of them are supposed to start at 1:10 pm starts. There are a couple of games scheduled for Sunday Night baseball. I hate Sunday Night Baseball. HATE IT. I usually have to be up at anywhere between 2-4 am on Monday morning for work. Do I have to go to the games? No. At least I know what I am in for with the scheduled times on the ticket. Oh wait. That's right. ESPN can grab any Sunday game they want and move it to Sunday nights from the afternoon. UGH! Annoying beyond belief. But what can you do? I have a 41 game weekend plan this year and I am going to enjoy going to the games just like I have in the past. But, do you know who I do feel bad for? The kids that were looking for the Mr Met Dash after Sunday games. I don't have any kids but can you imagine kids wanting to do this and the game run to 11 pm and then they hold the dash after the game? THAT'S GOING TO SUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKK!!!!!

NO MORE PICK UP AT WILL CALL?

@nikometsplus tweeted at me earlier that you can't pick up ticket orders purchased online. The only options you have now are Print at home or Mail. Mail costs $5 bucks. Print at home also lets you use your apple wallet to have ticket on your phone to be scanned at the ball park. Interesting that they got rid of that option.
I guess the will call is going to be for phone orders and for drop offs? Anyone have any ideas?

REGGIE JACKSON DOESN'T THINK HARVEY IS THE BEST

I wonder how Matt Harvey is going to feel about this. I know Shannon over at Metspolice is probably having a FIELD DAY with this right now. I do have to say, I agree with Reggie. I don't think Harvey is the Ace of the staff. I think it's deGrom.
As for the Mets staff, Jackson said, “I’ve seen enough of their pitchers to know they are good. And I don’t think Harvey is the best and that says a lot because he is a No. 1 anywhere. There’s 30 teams, he’s a No. 1 on 25 of them.’’ Asked which Mets starter he believes is the best, Jackson took a pass.
Read the whole story here from the NY POST.

TIME TRAVELING METS FAN

Too bad the actors weren't better, and the Mets fan's future self looked shorter then the present self. The best part of this is the Mets caps.

I WORRY ABOUT DAVID WRIGHT

I am not worried about the baseball player. I am worried about the man. I was lucky to talk to people who are really close to David Wright last season and I am worried he might get hurt to the point that his daily life is effected. I am not going to get into what was told to me, but I hope that Wright doesn't try to do too much where he hurts himself for life. Let's break down what Spinal Stenosis is:
The most common forms are cervical spinal stenosis, which are at the level of the neck, and lumbar spinal stenosis, at the level of the lower back. Thoracic spinal stenosis, at the level of the mid-back, is much less common.[1]
In lumbar stenosis, the spinal nerve roots in the lower back are compressed which can lead to symptoms of sciatica (tingling, weakness, or numbness that radiates from the low back and into the buttocks and legs).
Signs and symptoms Illustration depicting spinal stenosis and spinal cord compression Common Standing discomfort Discomfort/pain, in shoulder, arm, hand Bilateral symptoms Numbness Weakness Buttock / Thigh only Below the knee
Standing? Majority of the game is standing. Not only that, think about the form Wright has when he plays third. He has his knees bent and is slight bent over at the waist ready to make any play that is hit towards him. And what about throwing a ball or swinging a bat. The torque alone probably shoots a pain up and down his spine. Trauma: Accidents and injuries may dislocate the spine and the spinal canal or cause burst fractures that yield fragments of bone that go through the canal You guys remember when Wright had a fractured back a few years ago? I have been told by someone that I know that has spinal stenosis that is an every day person that he can't even play sports anymore because of the pain he is in. Now imagine trying to play at a big league level? I have had a stiff back and didn't even want to try to tie my sneakers let alone try to play nine innings of ball. I am hoping for the best for Wright and that he can continue to have a full and fruitful life whenever he does retire from baseball down the line.

GARY CARTER CUSTOM BALL

GARY CARTER Art Baseball. Original pen and ink drawings on vintage baseball; signed by the artist. Artist Richard Righter has captured some of the great stars of baseball and created a tribute to the game using part of the game. Each baseball is collected from local ballparks, antique stores or other sources, meticulously cleaned, conditioned, dried and prepped; then the portrait is drawn with black ink for a unique, vintage appearance. The idea for these art-balls came while collecting used baseballs and a desire to better preserve their inherent character and enhance "displayability." Start your collection with Hall of Fame catcher and '86 Mets World Series star, Gary Carter. Well-worn and ideally aged for a classic look, this portrait baseball will immediately add a classic element to your sports display. On the front panel is Gary Carter's portrait; on the left side panel is Cater in action behind the plate. On right and rear panels are name and stat inscriptions commemorating the 11 time All Star's phenomenal accomplishments.

METS MEMORABILIA: QUESTIONABLE

A family member knows that I have been collecting a lot of signed memorabilia lately and the grabbed me this,

Syndergaard, cool right? Except I am trying to figure out something. This is authenticated by a legit authenticator but I notice something. This jersey is not a majestic jersey. It's marked that its from the Philippines. So this jersey has to be a knockoff, but the auto is legit? I am torn and confused.

Update- found a listing for a similar Thor jersey.

AUTOGRAPHED JOHN FRANCO GAME MODEL GLOVE

I bought this a while ago in an auction. A game model signed John Franco glove.
