Jacob deGrom on why he left the Mets.

Jacob deGrom is starting to talk about his time as a Met and why he went to the Texas Rangers instead of sticking in NY. Here is a snippet from the NY Post about why deGrom made the move.

From the NY Post

“That kind of got out. [But] I really enjoyed my time in New York,” deGrom said. “I have friends that will be lifelong friends in New York. We still keep in touch with a lot of people. That was all I knew for 13 years including eight seasons in the big leagues. The fans and everyone were always great to me. It was never like 100 percent I’m leaving here.”

The chances to leave only started to lean that way, he said, as he got into free agency, and it quickly became clear that the Rangers — baseball’s other uber-aggressive team, only behind the Mets and Padres — made their feelings known early. DeGrom’s $185 million contract reflected his greatness, and turned out to be more than 50 percent more than the Mets’ bid (which sources suggest wasn’t quite the $120 million that was reported, and closer to $100 million to $110 million).

Anyway, he portrayed it as a business call than anything personal. And considering the dollar gap, it’s hard to see how it could have turned out any other way.

“It’s free agency. You sit down and say I could see myself here, I could see myself there. Texas showed a ton of interest. Things got moving really, really quickly. And I said, I’m going to be a Texas Ranger,” deGrom said.

Read More here.

I have heard some different things about why deGrom decided to head to Texas. I can easily get behind him leaving because of it being a business decision. Hopefully for Jake he can stay healthy and pitch for the Rangers but with the way his arm has been the last two seasons it would have been very risky for the Mets to pay him the kind of money he received.

Email from Queensfuture.com about Citi Field Parking Lot

Now, we’re excited to share the initial findings with an executive report.

  • 98% of respondents prefer to “Build Something Great for All” over “Keep the 50 acres of asphalt”
  • Key community priorities: job creation, year-round entertainment/activity, local business support, and expanding/improving open space
  • Many participants would prefer to take the subway and bike if it were made safer and easier in the future. A desire for ferry service was frequently stated
  • Most common themes for the future of the site included green space, arts & entertainment, community space, and transportation improvements
  • Visit queensfuture.com to read and download the full report for yourself

Thank you again for your candid, open participation and investment in the future of the Queens community. Your voice is being heard.

Above was in an email i received last night from Queens Future.

I have a realistic question. When it is time to knockdown Citi Field and rebuild it, where does that construction happen? If anything gets built on the parking lots other than a park and a new stadium needs to be built, where does it go and what happens to the buildings that were built on parkland? Should the Mets have to pay for the parkland at market value if any of this happens?

Anyone ask these questions yet?

Headlines from the Athletic

Headlines from the Athletic

Rosenthal: Tension over MLB salary arbitration rulings could translate to another battle

You can read the story here.

Steve Cohen: MLB’s new economic committee ‘absolutely not’ targeting Mets’ record spending

Read that Story here.

MLB creates economic reform committee in wake of Mets’ spending, Bally RSN woes

Read more here

Let's take the top story first.

Maybe if MLB paid their Minor Leaguers a fair wage over the lifetime of baseball the players might nit have a chip on their shoulders when it is time for arbitration. Maybe baseball should figure out a way not to short change the players in their contracts to begins with.

Second story- I feel the owners that don't want to spend money or reinvest in their teams aren't thrilled with Cohen. They might feel they have a target on their backs from their fans for not spending.

Third Story- MLB relied on regional sports networks instead of realizing that they have all this teah and diff ways to show the games. They just want that TV money.

Baseball basically has and is continuing to put itself in a choke hold until its going to choke itself out.
