NEW YORK METS TO HONOR ED KRANEPOOL WITH UNIFORM PATCH FOR 2025 SEASON

 

Members of the Kranepool family will be honored during Opening Day Ceremonies on Friday, April 4

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., March 26, 2025 – The New York Mets today announced that the team will wear a tribute uniform patch all season long to honor Mets Hall of Famer Ed Kranepool. Kranepool passed away on September 8, 2024, at age 79. The patch will feature Kranepool’s iconic number seven and will be worn on the sleeve of all Mets jerseys (photo attached).

 

Kranepool’s 17 family members will be honored pregame on Opening Day, April 4 vs. the Toronto Blue Jays. The Kranepool family will also be accompanied by close friend and former teammate, Art Shamsky.

 

“Of all the stats and records Ed accomplished throughout his career, the thing he was most proud of was that he spent his entire Major League career in a Mets uniform,” said Art Shamsky. “Ed would be touched that the team will be wearing his number seven on their uniform all year long.”

 

Kranepool played for the Mets from 1962-1979, spending his entire 18-year career with the Mets. He was a member of the 1969 Miracle Mets, a 1965 All-Star and the club’s all-time leader in games played. Kranepool remains in the Mets all-time top 10 in many statistical categories including plate appearances, hits, at-bats, total bases, doubles, RBI, walks and runs scored. He was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in 1990.

WHAT:           The New York Mets will hold live art and installations with legendary local artist Cey Adams and Sophia Chang at Mets House NYC on Friday, March 21 at 1 p.m. Cey and Sophia will transform Mets House, inside and out, bringing the Mets ‘IYKNYYK’ campaign to life through bold, dynamic designs across exterior windows and interior displays. These installations will be an immersive fusion of sports and culture, while further cementing the Mets as a true force in NYC.

 

Cey Adams – Lifelong Mets fan and native New Yorker. Legendary artist Cey Adams, known for his bold typography and visual storytelling. His work has been showcased from city streets to major cultural institutions. Cey’s style incorporates vintage materials and other mixed media to create unique original works of art. Digging deep into the Mets archives, the artist will be leveraging his method to make a large-scale artwork on panel of the Mets logo. Cey served as the founding Creative Director at Def Jam Recordings, where he and his team “defined the visual culture of Hip-Hop”. Fans can follow Cey’s work on Instagram @ceyadams.

 

Sophia Chang – Sophia is a Queens-born illustrator and designer whose work fuses sneaker culture, streetwear and sports. In less than a decade, Sophia managed to champion a name for herself in the art, design and streetwear community worldwide. With her BFA from Parsons School of Design coupled with a natural acumen for business, she has collaborated with A-list names across multiple fields. She references passing Shea as a regular part of her childhood and a piece of her inspiration. Sophia will transform the space’s windows to captivate Union Square with the Mets brand in a fresh, innovative way.

 

Mets House NYC – Mets House NYC, located in Union Square, is a new and exciting multipurpose space that gives Mets fans an exclusive opportunity to engage with their favorite team outside of the ballpark. The new, two-part series “The Pursuit”, presented by CohnReznick will take fans behind-the-scenes of the 2024 season and the historic signing of Juan Soto

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., March 12, 2025 – The New York Mets announced today they will debut a new documentary called “The Pursuit”, presented by professional services firm CohnReznick. For Mets and sports fans interested in what goes into the biggest contract signing in North American sports history, the new two-part documentary will take fans behind-the-scenes of the 2024 Mets magical season and will dive into the details of the team’s offseason pursuit and ultimate signing of Juan Soto. Part one of “The Pursuit” launches on Friday, March 14, and part two launches Friday, March 21, with both episodes, as well as bonus content, premiering exclusively on the Mets’ YouTube channel. A new trailer for the documentary was released earlier this week.
