Mets Fan Favorite Spot - Donovan’s Pub: Award-Winning Burgers, Perfect Pints, and a Queens Tradition

New York Living’s Ben Aaron visited Donovan’s Pub in Woodside, Queens, a neighborhood institution that has been serving locals, Mets fans, and food lovers for more than 60 years. Known for its award-winning burgers, live music, perfectly poured Guinness, and welcoming atmosphere, Donovan’s has become one of New York City’s most beloved pubs. And here’s a deal Mets fans will love: bring in your Mets game ticket and your first drink is on the house.

Read More here.

I'm a Woodside guy born and raised and still go to Donovan's and order take out too. I've known Danny and Jimmy since we were kids and they are great guys. They really care about the community and about the customers. I had my 40th birthday there 10 yrs ago so they aren't joking about that everyone does a celebration there. My nephews from Staten Island are always asking to go to Donovan's when they come over to the neighborhood. In 2025 I brought NY1's Roger Clark there to do a report for  the Mets upcoming Opening Day. Hit Donovan's up before or after a Mets game.

Mets fan gets sign taken away( My thoughts on it)

\

I have two thoughts about this whole situation. One. It is a private business and the Mets organization has the right to restrict what is put on signs or if they don't want signs being brought into the ballpark. People start bringing up what about Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Speech doesn't apply here when you are in a "private business's location". So yes, the Mets have the right to take away the signs. They also have the right to remove you if they feel like you are being disruptive. Remember Feel. Feelings are subjective.

Now let's talk about my second thoughts on this. The Mets just put a target on their backs to being known as the Same Old Mets and LOLMets again. Now you are going to have more folks coming with signs, making signs at the ballpark with cardboard they find and markers, there are going to be Fire Sterns chants, there are going to be casino chants. The Mets might have just opened up Pandora's box of fan hatred against the team. If this team continues to be bad and there is a truncated or no season in 2027 you as an organization are going to have a fan revolt where they will not show up at the ballpark. All those ticket "memberships" you sold after Cohen tried to embarrass the fans for not showing up in 2024 are going to go unsold. You think the casual fan is going to show up? Nope. That isn't going to happen either. The Mets are not a premier attraction to come to see just to do "something" touristy in NYC. The politicians are starting to wake up about the casino land grab and fans are starting to do the whole Cohen only wanted a casino and that is why he bought the Mets. What am I trying to say in all this rambling? The Mets should have just let to be and not drawn a target on their backs with this. Now the fans know you guys are soft and are going to make it even worse during games for the organization. Are the Mets going to throw out everyone that has a sign that disagrees with them? Who knows.

Mr Met doing Old School LOLMets things

Mr Met is always playing around with Steve Gelbs during post game stories so I am not going to kill the Mets for letting this happen but this kind of thins is so on brand with the old LOLMets narrative that it just makes sense. The Mets at times just can't get out of their own way for causing mayhem to their own brand. It's not even like they were like "screw it, let's make fun of this situation". It was just the baseball gods lining up the Mets to Mets like they used to do all the time in the past.

Mets Fans and Reality

                                               Made with Canva

Hey everyone Checking in as a Mets fan with the reality check that Mets fans were in denial about for the last few years. It is pretty funny that Shannon from over at Metspolice.com and myself were telling folks for years to keep an eye out on the new ownership and not everything appeared to be what it was. The fact that the Wilpons mismanaged the teams over the years helped lead into the whole "Uncle Steve" narrative. I was cool with the ownership change because the team needed new blood ownership wise and it would be good to see money actually being used for the team. I also knew that there were going to be things that we wouldn't like about what the new ownership was going to do. Why is that you ask? Well, I'll tell you. Steve Cohen is a billionaire. Making money is in his DNA. He is always going to try to make more money. He will spend money to make more money and 9/10 succeed at it.

I have a theory and this starts back to when Steve Cohen was a minority owner of the Mets. Do you guys remember when the Wilpons wanted to build two malls at Citi Field? No? Well they wanted to put one across 126th street where they are building on the Iron Triangle now. Yes. That construction is the Wilpons and not The Cohens. Folks still think that is where the casino is going and not in the parking lots of Citi Field where Shea Stadium stood. Hold. I'm gettin side tracked. The Wilpons got shut down by the City for trying to build on City owned parkland. If you folks didn't know this but Citi Field is on land leased by NYC to the Mets organization for 99 years and the only ones who could have built on the land as part of that deal are the owners of the NY Mets with city approval. Here is where. my theory kicks in,

Cohen saw the land potential to make a ton of money while he was a minority owner of the Mets. He saw the mistakes the Wilpons made and figured out how to navigate the system to "swap land" and be able to build a PRIVATE CASINO on PUBLIC OWNED LAND. Billionaires like to make money. And building a casino on public owned land is going to make him a lot of money.

I think that the Mets fans for years were all pro UNCLE STEVE and and didn't realize that he was a businessman and once he knew he could make money he went for it. He did a great PR job of saying how big of a Mets fan he was and how he was going to bring a championship to the fans wishing five years( that would have brought in more money). He got mad when he lost money when fans didn't show up at the stadium and let the fans know "he was disappointed in them for not supporting the team.  What really is letting the bloom come off the rose is this team is unwatchable, costs a ton of money, it is a pain to try to park at Citi Field now($50 for parking in limited number of spots) and there is absolutely no life with the team. Oh yeah, the impending CBA bargaining with the potential of a lost season next year I think is really dampening fans wanting to root for this team.

What was the point of this post? Was it a "told you so" post? Is it just a post for post sakes? Eh the "told you so" is a maybe. I am really just enjoying watching Mets fans waking up from the Matrix.

Watching the Mets is a chore.

Made using Canva

I am not one of those bloggers that write about what happens between the lines on the baseball field or in the dugout unless it is something ridiculous and affects the fans but this team is abysmal to watch. It is a chore to watch this team play game in game out. I don't even want to watch the highlights(lowlights) on YouTube. The young players/Soto are fine enough but this team is not playing with any kind of urgency or showing that they want to win. The team is listless. The HR celebrations are stupid. The team itself needs to know when to have fun and not celebrate a solo HR when down by eleven runs. That is not the time to put on some knock off 3d printed Spider-Man mask(even if it did come from a friend),

This team is not going to be like the 2024 team that was just as soulless and was lucky to fall into the OMG and Grimace gimmicks. The biggest conspiracy theory I have read in the last few months is that this team was built shoddily and "cheaply" because of the upcoming labor issues when the CBA ends and the possibility of a hard salary cap or some version of it and since the Mets have Lindor and Soto's contracts could make it harder to build a fully balanced functioning team if the 2027 season even gets played.

I haven't gone to a non 7Line game yet this season and I used to be good for 5-10 more games at least. Between the $50 to park, the pain in the ass it is to park because of the parking spots taken away because of the casino construction and the fact that the team doesn't have any spark whatsoever makes it not worth it to go. And it is a shame too because a majority of issues that had plagued the game day experience over the years have been fixed. Urinal dividers in the Mens bathroom. Getting rid of the red security hats and shirts to blue to make the security staff look like they work for the Mets now and not the Phillies. The Ushers have blue shirts and caps too. The staff seems to be friendlier and more knowledgeable and helpful too. The staff looks to be more customer/fan service oriented now. Too bad the on the field product doesn't make it worth spending the money and the time to go to the ballpark or even watch the games on tv.

If I didn't have this blog or the QBC, I don't know how checked in that I would be at this point of the season. At least with the7line games I get to hang with a lot of my friends that I have made over the years and that makes the games palatable.

Danhausen/Knicks Shirts on sale

I wonder if they are going to do anything at Saturday Night's Main Event with the Knicks and Danhausen in July.

Friday, June 12, 2026

Knicks "Fans" don't be jerks.

Is this an action of Knicks fans causing chaos after the Knicks historic win the other night or are these individuals just looking for any reason to cause trouble in NYC? I think it is mostly the latter. This is chaos for chaos sake and it becomes the mentality like in the book of Lord of the Flies (also a new series on Netflix).

This was never a NY thing. It was always in the other cities in the US and even in Canada. This is crazy that people think that any sports team that is on its way to win or lose a championship that any "fanbase" or fake fans to act like this. There is no  excuse to act like this at all.

"Why won't they let us have watch parties?"- People are going to get hurt and some folks might die, thats why.

I just want Knicks and Spurs fans to be able to enjoy this with no one happen to worry about getting beaten down because of their fandom. There is video out there that I am not going to post of female Spurs fans getting their hair set on fire, fans getting jumped because they are wearing their Spurs gear and then "fans" destroying property both public and private( they destroyed a yellow cab). This is only going to cause us tax payers money in lawsuits, insurance, etc.

People need to be better. Considering how many people we have living in NYC this is just a small number of people to do this reprehensible acts but the majority of the folks that live here should not condone this.

I am going to get off my soapbox here and I can't wait for the Knicks to win. Knicks fans have been waiting a long time for this and this team definitely deserve to win this. This is a special team, in a special city with special fans. Enjoy the championship win if it happens. Don't try to burn the city down if they win or if they lose. That does nothing for anyone.

Francisco Lindor New York Mets Nike City Connect Authentic Sponsor Patch Jersey

Description

Francisco Lindor's name on your back, the City Connect design on your chest. This New York Mets Nike Authentic Jersey is the exact construction worn on the field, built with breathable mesh side and back panels and moisture-wicking technology to hold up from the first pitch through nine innings. The full recycled tackle twill team wordmark spans the chest, while sewn-down player name, numbers, and sponsor and sleeve patches deliver the same layered detail you see under the lights. A longer jersey length, designed to tuck in, completes the on-field silhouette.

From Lids.com

Here is a little tip for everyone. DO NOT PAY $450 for this authentic on field jersey now. If you live in near or in NYC or have a friend or family that does, wait until the Blue Friday sale in November and buy it at a deeeeeeeeeeeep discount. $450 bucks for a jersey is akin to a fan being mugged in the subway.
