METS ACQUIRE FERNANDO SALAS FROM THE ANGELS

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 31, 2016 – The New York Mets today announced that the club has acquired righthanded pitcher Fernando Salas from the Angels in exchange for righthanded minor league pitcher Erik Manoah. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets placed outfielder Justin Ruggiano on the 60-Day Disabled List.

Salas, 31, has four saves and a 2.93 ERA (five earned runs/15.1 innings) in 17 games since the All-Star Game. In that time, he’s held opponents to a .687 OPS and a .224 batting average against. Overall, Salas was 3-6 with six saves and a 4.47 ERA (28 earned runs/56.1 innings) in 58 games this season for the Angels.

In seven major league seasons, Salas is 19-21 with a 3.71 ERA (153 earned runs/371.0 innings) with 30 saves, including a career-high 24 saves with St. Louis in 2011. He has 366 strikeouts in 371.0 career innings pitched.

Manoah, 20, was 5-5 with a 5.37 ERA (37 earned runs/62.0 innings) in 13 games, 12 starts, for Brooklyn (A) of the New York-Penn League.
