METS ACQUIRE RHP TYLER ROGERS 

 

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 30, 2025 – The New York Mets announced that they have acquired RHP Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for RHP José Buttó, RHP Blade Tidwell and OF Drew Gilbert. 

 

Rogers, 34, has made a Major League-high-tying 53 appearances this season for Giants, posting a 1.80 ERA (10 ER/50.0 IP) with four walks and 38 strikeouts. In the majors this season, Rogers ranks third with a 2.1% walk rate, fifth with a 64.4% ground ball rate and 12^th with a 0.86 WHIP (min. 100 batters faced).  Additionally, Rogers’ 20 holds are tied for the ninth-most in the majors. 

 

Since 2020, Rogers leads the majors in appearances (375), innings in relief (379.0) and holds (138). Rogers led the National League in relief appearances in 2020 (29), 2021 (80) and 2024 (77), and also led the NL in holds in 2023 (30).  

 

In parts of seven seasons with the Giants, Rogers has posted a 26-20 record with a 2.79 ERA (123 ER/369.2 IP), 74 walks and 296 strikeouts across 392 appearances. His 143 career holds are the most in Giants history while his 392 appearances are the 12^th-most in franchise history since the team relocated to San Francisco in 1958. He was originally drafted by San Francisco in the 10^th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Austin Peay State University. 

 

Buttó, 27, has appeared in 34 games this season for the Mets and has pitched to a 3.64 ERA (19 ER/47.0 IP) with 41 strikeouts and 22 walks. In parts of four seasons, all with New York, the right-hander has appeared in 74 career Major League games (15 starts) and has gone 11-9 with a 3.45 ERA (64 ER/167.0 IP). He was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on June 2, 2017. 

 

Tidwell, 24, has appeared in four Major League games (two starts) this season and has allowed 15 earned runs across 15.0 innings. The 6-4, 207-pounder made his Major League debut on May 4, 2025 at St. Louis in the first game of a doubleheader. Across 73 career Minor League outings (66 starts), Tidwell has pitched to a 4.13 ERA (150 ER/326.2 IP) with 166 walks and 372 strikeouts. This season, he has gone 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA (36 ER/79.0 IP) in 17 games (14 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee. 

 

Gilbert, 24, has played in 82 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season and has a .243/.347/.430 (74-305) slash line with 12 home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 47 RBI, 45 runs and 41 walks. The left-handed hitter was acquired by the Mets along with INF/OF Ryan Clifford from Houston in exchange for RHP Justin Verlander on August 1, 2023. In 276 career Minor League games, Gilbert has posted an .809 OPS. The St. Paul, MN native was drafted by the Astros in the first round (28^th overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee.

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 25, 2025 – The New York Mets will host Battle of the Badges, presented by Your Local Ford Stores, at Citi Field on Sunday, August 17 at 4:10 p.m.The NYPD vs. FDNY annual charity baseball game will feature teams consisting of former high school, college and minor league baseball players who now protect and serve the local community as members of New York’s Finest and New York’s Bravest.

 

Mets Hall of Famer, former Captain and seven-time All-Star David Wright will be returning as the host of the game and will honor a NYPD and FDNY hero prior to the game.

 

“The Battle of the Badges game is one my favorite days of the year. Growing up in a Police Household, I quickly learned that the true heroes in the community are the police officers and firefighters that put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” said Wright. “While most of us would run away from trouble, First Responders run towards it. The Battle of the Badges game is a great reminder to thank First Responders for their bravery, service and commitment to their communities. I hope to see you there.”

 

Tickets are $20 with a portion of the ticket sales benefiting local FDNY and NYPD charities.

 

“The Mets are delighted to help give back to local charities by hosting the Battle of the Badges for the fourth straight year,” said Mets Senior Director of Community, Inclusion and Player Relations Donovan Mitchell. “It’s been an honor to support those who protect and serve with such a memorable event.”

 

Last year FDNY defeated NYPD, 5-1 to give New York’s Bravest their second straight win and a 14-12 advantage over New York’s Finest in the historic battle.

If you are of a certain age, you remember the LJN WWF Figures that came out on the 1980s. You had Hulk Hogan, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Mr. Fuji, and of course the Macho Man Randy Savage. A few years back the fellas over at CollectMajor.com created figured paying homage to that style. They created Big Rubber Guys! This was a fun ticket package giveaway. I wanted to start off talking about how organized and how good the redemption team was with this promotion. Chris Brown I’m giving a big shout out to you and your team for this. I’ll talk about this in the next few paragraphs.

To get this special WWE Night BOBBLEHEAD, you had to buy a ticket package that included Mr “Yeet” Met. This wasn’t given out to the first 15000 fans but to those who purchased the tickets for the special sections. When you got your digital ticket it told you that you had to use the QR Code to redeem it over near section 129 by the Group Redemption area. I expected to see a long line and just a few folks working the kiosk. NOPE! That’s not what I saw Mets Executive Chris Brown,who I have known for years looking at the tickets to make sure no one who didn’t purchase a WWE night package  mistakenly got a BOBBLEHEAD and also directing traffic to multiple tables, yes I said multiple tables. There was no real line up at the time when I went and it I watched for a few mins to see how every thing just flowed so well. Again Chris and team, great job there.

Oh yeah, the bobble head and the skits that Tiffany Stratton and Nia Jax were in were pretty fun too!

The Stars of TNA Wrestling unite on the softball field for the inaugural TNA SLAMMing Softball Classic, challenging the Coaching Staff of the Merrick Bellmore Little League Association in New York. The 7-inning game to benefit the Merrick Bellmore Little League will be held on Saturday, July 19, at Calhoun High School in Merrick, New York.

 

The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.

 

Frankie Kazarian and Brian Myers have been named the TNA Coaches for the game, which will include appearances by most of the TNA roster the night before Slammiversary, which is Sunday, July 20, at the UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

 

The TNA softball roster is loaded, including Jeff & Matt Hardy, Joe Hendry, Eddie Edwards, Nic Nemeth, Ryan Nemeth, A.J. Francis, Mustafa Ali, Zachary Wentz, Trey Miguel, Jason Hotch and John Skyler, among others. In addition, TNA will be represented on the diamond by Tessa Blanchard, Xia Brookside, Alisha Edwards, Ash By Elegance and Heather By Elegance, among others.

 

Admission to the softball game is $20 and all proceeds will be donated to the Merrick Bellmore Little League.

 

After the game, many of the TNA stars will participate in a Meet & Greet.

One of the big things I keep saying about Steve Cohen wanting to build a casino in the parking lot besides the fact A) its parkland and B) there is a school and affordable housing being built across 126th street is what is going to happen when it is time to build a new baseball stadium to replace Citi Field. Citi Field is starting to show its age and the hermit Shannon Shark has noticed it also.

 Like the LF retired numbers.  It just looks sloppy that a bunch of them are faded.

Walking in, I noticed the bricks.  Remember when everyone paid a few hundred bucks to honor their loved ones and line the WIlpons pockets?  Those are all pretty beat up and faded.  It’s the sort of a thing a billionaire (whose been known to write pretty big checks for things) could just be cool about to restore, but he isn’t going to do that, is he?
