METS ACQUIRE RHP TYLER ROGERS
FLUSHING, N.Y., July 30, 2025 – The New York Mets announced that they
have acquired RHP Tyler Rogers from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for RHP José Buttó, RHP Blade Tidwell and OF Drew Gilbert.
Rogers, 34, has made a Major League-high-tying 53 appearances this season for Giants, posting a 1.80 ERA (10 ER/50.0 IP) with four walks and 38 strikeouts. In the majors this
season, Rogers ranks third with a 2.1% walk rate, fifth with a 64.4% ground ball rate and 12th
with a 0.86 WHIP (min. 100 batters faced). Additionally,
Rogers’ 20 holds are tied for the ninth-most in the majors.
Since 2020, Rogers leads the majors in appearances (375), innings in relief (379.0) and holds (138). Rogers led the National League in relief appearances in 2020 (29), 2021
(80) and 2024 (77), and also led the NL in holds in 2023 (30).
In parts of seven seasons with the Giants, Rogers has posted a 26-20 record with a 2.79 ERA (123 ER/369.2 IP), 74 walks and 296 strikeouts across 392 appearances. His 143 career
holds are the most in Giants history while his 392 appearances are the 12th-most
in franchise history since the team relocated to San Francisco in 1958. He was originally drafted by San Francisco in the 10th
round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Austin Peay State University.
Buttó, 27, has appeared in 34 games this season for the Mets and has pitched to a 3.64 ERA (19 ER/47.0 IP) with 41 strikeouts and 22 walks. In parts of four seasons, all with
New York, the right-hander has appeared in 74 career Major League games (15 starts) and has gone 11-9 with a 3.45 ERA (64 ER/167.0 IP). He was originally signed by the Mets as a non-drafted free agent on June 2, 2017.
Tidwell, 24, has appeared in four Major League games (two starts) this season and has allowed 15 earned runs across 15.0 innings. The 6-4, 207-pounder made his Major League
debut on May 4, 2025 at St. Louis in the first game of a doubleheader. Across 73 career Minor League outings (66 starts), Tidwell has pitched to a 4.13 ERA (150 ER/326.2 IP) with 166 walks and 372 strikeouts. This season, he has gone 6-4 with a 4.10 ERA (36
ER/79.0 IP) in 17 games (14 starts) with Triple-A Syracuse. He was originally drafted by the Mets in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
Gilbert, 24, has played in 82 games with Triple-A Syracuse this season and has a .243/.347/.430 (74-305) slash line with 12 home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, 47 RBI, 45 runs
and 41 walks. The left-handed hitter was acquired by the Mets along with INF/OF Ryan Clifford from Houston in exchange for RHP Justin Verlander on August 1, 2023. In 276 career Minor League games, Gilbert has posted an .809 OPS. The St. Paul, MN native was
drafted by the Astros in the first round (28th
overall) of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Tennessee.
