Fans are up in arms about the Mets introducing the 6th inning Mayhem light show during this time with how atrocious the team is. Now, usually I could kill the organization with doing something like this but I won’t. Why not you ask? I have two reasons.
One, this was probably in the works way before this season looked like it belongs in the old dump in Staten Island. Logistically behind the scenes there is a lot of work having to deal with putting something like this together. It might not seem like there is but being a part of productions and putting together the QBC, folks have no idea how long things take to get done behind the scenes.
Two. A long time ago in a galaxy far far away, myself and my buddy Randy(formerly Readtheapple.com) were asked by the Mets to help come up with some vignettes for the players during a Star Wars Night game. We wrote out a few skits and the folks I was chummy with back in the day loved it. The problem was the team was going through a losing streak and management pivoted and cut back on all the “fun” of Star Wars night that season. It became very bare bones and thought of that the fans didn’t want to have a good time or enjoy themselves at the ballpark while the team sucked. I rebutted that if now wasn’t the time to try to bring some laughs and enjoyment into the park than when? So I can’t kill them for moving forward with it.
My problem with it though is that just the whole mayhem thing itself is lame. I guess the Mets have to justify the money they spent on the LED ribbon screens.
Suggestion for the use of the mayhem switch that’s behind the big apple reserve aka the7line section. Just use it after the Mets had a good pitching or hitting half inning. It would make more sense that way than using it at the end of the 6th inning.
