The United States Tennis Association announced on Monday it will make an $800 million investment to transform and modernize tennis facilities for the U.S. Open.
The project marks the largest single investment in U.S. Open history and will feature a top-to-bottom renovation of Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, New York, as well as a new $250 million player performance center.
The USTA said the project will be self-funded and will not rely on public funding or taxpayer dollars.
“This project enables us to maintain the greatest stage in tennis — Arthur Ashe Stadium — which was constructed more than 25 years ago, and modernize it in a way that will set it up for the next 25 years,” said Lew Sherr, CEO and executive director of the USTA.

Between this, the Willets Point Development, and possibly the Casino project, traffic is going to be insane during those two weeks of the US OPEN,Mets Games, and the gambling. Imagine what the parking is going to look like. Thats a concern of mine too if the casino is built. Can you imagine how hard it is going to be to park if you are going to casino or to the ballpark on game days? Imagine living in the affordable living apartments across the street from all of this? It has the possibility of being a big catastrophe.

In a historic, sweeping decision, baseball commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday removed Pete Rose, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson and other deceased players from Major League Baseball's permanently ineligible list.
The all-time hit king and Jackson -- both longtime baseball pariahs stained by gambling, seen by MLB as the game's mortal sin -- are now eligible for election into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
Manfred ruled that MLB's punishment of banned individuals ends upon their deaths.
"Obviously, a person no longer with us cannot represent a threat to the integrity of the game," Manfred wrote in a letter to attorney Jeffrey M. Lenkov, who petitioned for Rose's removal from the list Jan. 8. "Moreover, it is hard to conceive of a penalty that has more deterrent effect than one that lasts a lifetime with no reprieve.
With all the gambling sites that MLB is partnered with as sponsors it only makes sense that they do this and in my opinion not look hypocritical by keeping them out. I think as baseball fans we all kind of felt that this would happen after Pete Rose passed away.

For some reason, the Mets) I think it was last season or the season before that) decided that Mrs. Met didn't need her own social media accounts and combined it with Mr Mets account. Why? No one knows. I guess now that Mr and Mrs Met are up for the Mascot Hall of Fame that the Mets decided to bring her X account back. Im too lazy to see if any other of her accounts have popped back up yet.
This is the development that is being overseen by Stirling Equities. You know this company as the one thats owned by the Wilpons. Yes, those Wilpons. This is different than the casino project Steve Cohen is pushing.
From newyorkyimby.com
Construction has reached a milestone in the first phase of the Willets Point Transformation project in Willets Point, Queens, where the superstructures of Buildings 1 and 2 have been completed ahead of schedule. These two buildings will deliver 880 of the total 2,500 affordable housing units planned for the site, marking a step forward in what is set to be New York City’s largest 100-percent affordable housing development in over four decades. The initiative is being developed by Queens Development Group, a joint venture of Related Companies and Sterling Equities, in partnership with the NYC Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the NYC Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
Once complete, the full Willets Point plan will feature 150,000 square feet of new public open space, over 20,000 square feet of retail, a new public school, a 250-room hotel, and the city’s first soccer-specific stadium, which will serve as the home of the New York Football Club (NYCFC) of Major League Soccer. Phase 1 includes three residential buildings with a total of 1,100 units, including 220 units of senior housing. Phase 2 will deliver the remaining 1,400 units, as well as the hotel, stadium, and additional infrastructure upgrades. The stadium, expected to open by the 2027 season, will be fully electric and privately financed, with parking accommodations made through an agreement with the New York Mets.
