Update: Mickey Callaway accused of harassing women.

From all over Twitter: The LA Angels Suspended Callaway pending investigation into these allegations.

Wow. Another set of bombshell allegations against a Major League Baseball Organization employee. This is the story that seems to have made Metsmerized Online writers jumping ship. Now this is the story that just dropped about Mickey Callaway. I don’t know why the newspapers have to use Mickey wearing Mets gear since he’s been gone for a few years.

Former Mets manager Mickey Callaway bombarded women who covered him with unsolicited and unwanted sexual messages, according to a report in the Athletic on Monday night.

Callaway “thrust his crotch near the face of a reporter as she interviewed him,” among other behavior, according to the report from Brittany Ghiroli and Katie Strang. One woman said that Callaway gave her unwanted massages in the dugout and sent her a stream of requests for naked photos. This woman said that Callaway’s behavior towards her spanned his time in New York and Anaheim.

Callaway is the Angels’ pitching coach, a job he’s held since being fired by the Mets after the 2019 season. He remained employed in that position as of Monday evening.”

This is so crazy that it takes years for this stuff to come out against  managers/gms in sports. 

 

Rather than rush to respond to these general allegations of which I have just been made aware, I look forward to an opportunity to provide more specific responses,” Callaway saidin a statement to The Athletic. “Any relationship in which I was engaged has been consensual, and my conduct was in no way intended to be disrespectful to any women involved. I am married and my wife has been made aware of these general allegations.”

Also it seems like the Mets “knew something” during Mickey’s tenure and it’ll be interesting to see what falls out from there. I wonder if folks try to hold Sandy Alderson to task since he hire both Jared Porter and Mickey Callaway.

METS ACQUIRE RHP JORDAN YAMAMOTO FROM MIAMI

 FLUSHING, N.Y., February 1, 2021 

— The New York Mets today announced that they have acquired RHP Jordan Yamamoto from the Miami Marlins in exchange for minor league infielder Federico Polanco. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets designated infielder Robel García for assignment.

Yamamoto, 24, went 4–5 with a 4.46 ERA (39 earned runs/78.2 innings) and 82 strikeouts in 15 starts with Miami in 2019. The 6–0, 185-pounder ranked third in the majors (min. 15 starts) with a .191 opponent batting average and a 6.18 hits per nine innings ratio behind Justin Verlander (.172, 5.53) and Gerrit Cole (.186, 6.02).

He was just the second pitcher since 1900 to win each of his first three career starts and allow seven-or-fewer hits, joining Cincinnati’s Wayne Simpson in 1970, according to Elias. Yamamoto has never allowed more than seven hits in any of his 18 major league starts.

Yamamoto went 0–1 in four games, three starts over 11.1 innings in 2020.

The Pearl City, HI native has 95 strikeouts and allowed 81 hits in 90.0 career innings in 19 games, 18 starts with a 4–6 record over two years in the majors.

Polanco, 19, has hit .244 (110–450) with 20 doubles and 50 RBI in two minor league seasons.

García, 27, was claimed off waivers from Cincinnati on October 26, 2020. He hit five homers in 31 games with the Chicago Cubs in 2019.

One panelist leaves. New panelist comes in for the State of the Mets.

On Friday, I got an email from Mark Healey the host of The State of the Mets Panel that one of the participants had to drop out. Michael Mayer formerly of MetsMerized Online wasn't able to be a part of the panel. No reason was given and no reason was asked by us over at the QBC. To be 100 percent transparent, we let Mark pick who he wants to be on the panel and he always asked if we are cool with who he picks. 99 percent of the time we haven't had a problem with the picks. Mark does a great job every year and he has been able to pivot and get another great participant. He was able to get Lori Rubinson for the panel.

Just because SNY is going to be at QBC this Saturday 2/6/21 with Baseball Night in NY doesn't mean I am not going to say something about this.

SNY Apologized for a tweet they made earlier in the night. 

Earlier tonight, SNY posted a tweet that made light of the harassment Steve Cohen and his family received this past week. We apologize for the error in judgement.

What are they apologizing for?

I don't know who okayed this tweet. Not only is it not funny, but it isn't original. At least they did apologize. Personal threats and harassment is not anything to make fun of. Guess the author of the tweet doesn't remember a twitter personality who was arrested for threats against Mets players and Citi Field.
