The Guest for QBC Presents "Lunch with______" is...

We had such a good time a few years ago doing a more intimate version of the QBC that we are bringing it back again. Dan and I are working out the logistics right now and what the price will be and also the amount of tickets that will actually be available for.

I promised to let you guys know who is going to be the person we have lunch with on July 29th at Katch Astoria. It is going to be from 1pm to 3pm. Will include an hour lunch, panel, and signing. We always try to bring someone cool that folks don't really get to see or hear out of their element. And I think we have nailed it again.

Without further ado. The Queens Baseball Convention presents "Lunch with Howie Rose". That's right the radio voice of the NY METS and we get to hang out with him have some lunch, hear some stories, share some laughs and just have a good time.

We will have more information soon about prices of the tix and when they will go on sale.

Keep your eyes peeled to for updates:

NY CASINO:Bruce Blakeman, Las Vegas Sands strike Coliseum lease agreement

More and more companies making deals for land in NY to try to build a casino. I wonder how log of a shot this is to get done at the Nassau Mausoleum.

From Newsday.com

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman on Wednesday is expected to announce a new lease agreement with Las Vegas Sands that would give the casino-resort company control over the Nassau Coliseum property.

Administration officials with knowledge of the deal said they are expected to announce a “large, lump-sum payment not contingent on securing a state gaming license” along with annual revenues to the county and Town of Hempstead and surrounding communities that will exceed $100 million per year.

Mohegan joins The Soloviev Group on NYC Casino bid

It looks like more and more of the established folks are coming out to try to join in on bids for the three casino licenses. The folks that run Mohegan Sun have now jumped in to partner up with the developer who has land near the United Nations. They are saying they will offer rewards to people businesses around the neighborhood if they get one of the licenses.

From casino.org

“ Mohegan has long run its Mohegan Momentum Partnership Program in the regions where the company operates. The casino operator’s rewards program allows its patrons to use their rewards points and benefits inside Mohegan properties and nearby businesses.

The goal is to encourage casino players to frequent Mohegan’s resort restaurants, shops, entertainment offerings, and businesses located off the resort grounds.

Mohegan CEO Ray Pineault says the Mohegan Momentum Partnership Program demonstrates the company’s community commitment.

“With various establishments bidding to attain a Gaming Facility license in New York City, it is imperative for New Yorkers to consider factors beyond just local and state tax revenue gain, but also the effort that organizations are willing and able to make to better the surrounding communities and businesses,”Pineault stated.

Pineault revealed that several nearby restaurants have already agreed to sign on as Momentum partners, including Il Monello on E. 49th and Il Tinello on E. 46th. Both are Italian restaurants.”

I wonder if two licenses would be awarded in NYC. You have the Mohegan Sun bid and also the Hard Rock/Citi Field bid which are both Native American groups that already own casinos.

WALTHAM, Mass. – (April 20, 2023) – Evolv Technology (NASDAQ: EVLV), the leader in AI-based weapons detection security screening, today announced that its screening solution will be used at all Citi Field entrances beginning in the 2023 season.

Citi Field has already featured Evolv’s state-of-the-art Evolv Express® screening solution at its busiest gates since 2021. Beginning on April 6th for the Mets home opener against the Marlins, usage of the Evolv Express security screeners was expanded to welcome fans at all major points of entry. We want to make sure everyone has the same positive experience, starting from the moment they enter the ballpark.”

Evolv Express uses powerful sensor technology with artificial intelligence (AI) to provide safer, more accurate threat detection at unprecedented volume and speed. It allows security officials to tell the difference between threats and the everyday items people carry in their pockets and bags.

“We’ve had a great experience already working with the Mets,” said John Baier, Evolv’s vice president of sports. “We look forward to an increased Evolv presence at Citi Field in 2023, helping to keep fans safer while getting them into the park quickly so they can ‘Meet the Mets.’”

Citi Field is one of many Major League Baseball parks partnering with Evolv as the 2023 season gets underway. The technology is featured in a wide variety of sports facilities, from the NHL’s Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia to the NFL’s SoFi stadium in Los Angeles, and Major League Soccer’s Lower.com Field in Columbus, Ohio, among others.

Oakland A’s agree to buy land in Las Vegas

The Oakland Athletics are pretty serious about moving to Las Vegas. Philadelphia A’s. Kansas City A’s. Oakland A’s. Now possibly the Las Vegas A’s. Can you blame fans for not showing up at games with the way the team finances and ballpark is run? And the move to LV? Will anything change in the way the team is being built and the money being spent on players? Guess we’ll have to see.

A’s full statement

“The A’s have signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a future ballpark in Las Vegas. We realize this is a difficult day for our Oakland fans and community.

“For more than 20 years, the A’s have focused on securing a new home for the Club, and have invested unprecedented time and resources for the past six years to build a ballpark in Oakland. Even with support from fans, leaders at the city, county, and state level, and throughout the broader community, the process to build a new ballpark in Oakland has made little forward progress for some time. We have made a strong and sincere effort to stay here.”

“We recognize that this is very hard to hear. We are disappointed that we have been unable to achieve our shared vision of a waterfront ballpark. As we shift our focus to Vegas, we will continue to share details about next steps.”

Some in Coney Island doesn’t want a Casino

It looks like a lot of folks in different areas of  NYC don’t want a casino in its backyard. Coney Island is against it. A lot of folks in Willets Point are against it. Even folks out on Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum are against it.

From the NY Daily News

This project is a travesty,” one speaker fumed. “Please leave us alone!” another remarked. “You can’t come in and give a vague promise of jobs,” said a third.
Many expressed skepticism of developers’ promises of jobs and other economic benefits at the forum, which was hosted by Community Board 13 at a restaurant a stone’s throw from the famous Brooklyn boardwalk.
Not a single member of the public expressed outright support for the plan.

OABT S7 E9: Little Boys Dinner Last Night. Mets and whatever from T7LHQ.

The boys are rolling so far on the West Coast in Oakland and LA. Brett Baty is back, and hopefully here to stay. Our friend Jacob Resnick (who you might remember as a Kid Caster on SNY back in the day) now works for the Mets Minor League Operations department. Lindor says he’d let Vogelbach babysit his daughter… which begs the question which Met would you choose to babysit your toddler or NEVER babysit your toddler? Nimmo went from being an average outfielder to making web gems on the regular. Gold glove in his future? The Mets are in line to face Noah Sydergaard tomorrow, if he doesn't bitch out again that is. The Long Island Ducks (Daniel Murphy is on the team now!) start their Spring Training games this week and you can get in for FREE and park for FREE. Darren Meenan and Julia Quadrino back in action at T7LHQ

Freedom Plaza Casino project is pushing hard

Every couple of days I scour the internet to find some sort of news on the casino licensing and the proposed  building of one at Citi Field. If Steve Cohen doesn’t get the license will they still want to get rid of the parking lots and say build a park above ground on a deck?

Anyway here is the later Casino licensing news that I could find. Freedom Plaza? I don’t remember hearing about this one.

From USBets.com

Freedom Plaza project attempts to distinguish itself

While each of the four Manhattan proposals continue to work all back channels to build political support, one of the projects could have some key advantages when it comes to easing concerns about traffic congestion, construction hassles, and zoning limitations. The Freedom Plaza proposal for the Midtown East neighborhood is trying to forge a niche as the most acceptable locally of the four options.

“I think we have the upper hand, because we have the best partner. I think we have the best piece of property. I think we have the best program,” said Mohegan President and CEO Ray Pineault, whose group is partnering with the Soloviev Group on a project that includes two residential towers that promise affordable housing and green space near the East River.

“I think we offer the best overall project for the state of New York and New York City and the community. So, I’m biased. In that vein, we’re reaching out to our local representatives and state representatives and letting them know we want to work with the community to make sure we bring the best product forward and that we have the best project.”
