Steve Cohen has another meeting about the parkland at Citi Field

There was a second "vision quest" meeting about the parking lot where Shea Stadium was torn down. It is an interesting read again.

From The Queens Courier

Queens Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas Grech praised Cohen for the process in which he’s gone about to get input from the community on the lot. He described the approach as “bottom-up,” meaning that the first people Cohen is trying to hear from are members of the community and small business owners before exploring plans with the city and other organizations.

Grech said he would like to see a small convention center built in the area to help drive both local and regional businesses to the area.

Read more here.

A convention center would be a good idea for the area but why do I feel like it would be attached to a casino built on parkland?

We might have a new NYC/Long Island Area Casino Contender!

Vornado Realty Trust has now entered the chat! Vornado is one of the biggest real estate companies in NYC and they are kicking the tires on soon to be knocked down Hotel Pennsylvania site across from Madison Square Garden.

From The NY Post.

Vornado, which rarely responds to media inquiries, broke its silence about a possible casino bid when contacted by The Post.

“We are studying the possibility of applying for a casino license [in the Penn Station area], but we have no deal in place,” a Vornado spokesperson said. “Our most important criterion for any project is that it meet the economic development objectives and produce the transit and public improvements set forth in the state’s General Project Plan.”

Who are the other folks vying for the licenses?

SL Green has teamed with Caesars Entertainment in Times Square; Related Companies and Wynn Resorts are eyeing Hudson Yards; Soloviev Group wants a site on First Avenue near the UN; Hudson’s Bay Company hopes to put a casino at Saks Fifth Avenue; Mets owner Steve Cohen may possibly team with Hard Rock for one at Willets Point, Queens; and Thor Equities is gambling on Coney Island.

Read more here.

This is going to be interesting. Is Vegas giving any odds on this situation?

Downstate Casino Applications are open

This was in NY DAILY NEWS on Jan 4th. This is from an article talking about how the applications for the downstate casino license open.

A community advisory committee made up of local stakeholders must also give each application the go-ahead.

Sen. Joe Addabbo (D-Queens), chairman of the chamber’s gaming committee, applauded the board for moving forward.

“The quicker the three licenses are approved, the quicker we can begin to realize the major benefits to the state, such as thousands of construction and post-construction jobs, billions in revenue from the licenses, an increase in problem gambling monies and programs, as well as billions more in educational funding when the winning casinos go live,” he said in a statement.

As part of the state budget last year, Gov. Hochul and lawmakers agreed to fast-track the approval process for downstate casinos, which will be allowed to offer table games like poker and blackjack in addition to slots and video terminals.

Two existing “racinos,” Resorts World Casino in Queens and the Empire City Casino in Westchester County, are preparing to apply for the full licenses and are considered frontrunners in the competition.

I don't think this is a slam dunk for 126th street.

Saks Fifth Avenue wants a casino on 5th Ave

Looks like Mr Cohen will definitely have competition between this bid, the Time Square bid and the Nassau Coliseum bid.

Fromt The NY Post

Saks Fifth Avenue finally tipped its hand, confirming plans to bid for a casino license on the top floors of its flagship store on Fifth Avenue.

The luxury department store between East 49th and East 50th streets, next to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, released exclusive images to The Post for a casino that will bring high rollers to the home of high fashion.

The renderings show stylishly dressed guests, seated at roulette tables, posh bars and upholstered chairs, clinking cocktails. They enter the building via a separate entrance on a red carpet that extends out onto the sidewalk and opens into a vast lobby area with multiple chandeliers and plush decorative rugs.

The casino would take up three floors, starting on the ninth, where servers will be dressed in black tie and hand out champagne flutes to gamblers, Richard Baker, executive chairman and chief executive of HBC, the Toronto-based company that owns Saks told The Post.

Read more here.

BTW this is the best quote from the NY Post's story

The stylish Saks casino would be similar to the one featured in the James Bond movie “Casino Royale,” according to Baker.

“In Monte Carlo they have fancy casinos so why not in Manhattan,” Baker said. “Why should Manhattan have another slobby casino. … We need spectacular.”

What'cha guys think about that?

Could this work for Citi Field 2.0

My friends and family know me as a problem solver. My brain works in a crazy way where I can see how to make things work. It’s one of the reasons how the QBC is successful every year. I can look at a blank room and envision what it would look like filled up with vendors, fans, players, signing tables, and a stage. This is something that’s click with me about Citi Field and Steve Cohen wanting to build a Casino in the parking lot. I don’t like that idea but I do have an idea that might work. I’ve even floated by my cousin over at Metspolice.com and it didn’t get shut down immediately.

No. The parking lot that was the former site of Shea Stadium should not be built on with a casino. It should have a new baseball stadium with a retractable roof. Hear me out. I know Citi Field is only 14 years old but by the time 126th street has all the affordable housing, retail shops, schools NYFC stadium done, it will probably be closer to being twenty years old. That means it either is or will be obsolete within a few years of that. The Mets should get ahead of that.

My first idea is that the new stadium should two stories above ground level. Just like how DisneyWorld is built one story off the ground with service tunnels under it. My idea is that the casino and shopping can occupy those two level’s underneath the stadium. But then what happens to the parkland you want to be built? Knock down Citi Field and then you have new ground there. Along with the new casino and shops you build a two deck parking area and the roof becomes the parkland and attaches to the stadium to make it seamless as if it was all ground level. Plant trees, build fountains, have foot paths around the area. This level can also have restaurants, bars, museums, and more retail space attached to the new ballpark. Oh one more thing. This ballpark now has a retractable roof.

So now you have parkland, casino, restaurants, shopping, a new retractable roof stadium, and parking.

There probably a thousand different holes in this idea but someone has to try to think differently here.

Major Players QBC and “Mets” signed figures

Matt Cardona and Brian Myers have a very successful podcast about Wrestling Figures and also other collectibles. The Major Wrestling Figure Podcast is an awesome show, lets you in on some inside Baseball of the wrestling business and also the collectible world. Matt and Brian even started their own toy company called Major Bendies. All of this while still wrestling. The fellas also do a stream on what not every Monday with Smart Mark Sterling where they sell items. They could be ring worn, stuff from their personal collection, or even autographed items. They both have Super 7 Action Figures of themselves and every now and then will do an auction on WhatNot where they will inscribe anything you want on the figure along with an auto. I was like what the hell, I’m and and when I won the Matt Cardona one, live on the WhatNot stream, I had Brian choose what Matt wrote. Of course to rib me Brian had Matt write LFGM! on it. You all know how I feel about the F in that. Also Matt had no clue what any of this meant.

Brian had an auction up this past Monday to do the same thing. This time I was smart about it. Since Brian is a big time Mets fan and also enjoys the QBC, I figured why not do something cool and have him promote QBC on the street. I broke out the old school NWO 4 Life and had Brian switch it up a bit to QBC for life and he did it in Mets colors. Fun stuff

Check out their podcasts, YouTube channel and whatnot streams if you are like me and enjoy this stuff.

Someone reported about the Steve Cohen Queens Future meeting!

I looked all over the place yesterday to find anything about the Steve Cohen Queensfuture meeting. Lots of interesting quotes about what should go there. You know like a casino. Shouldn't that be something that goes across 126th street? The Wilpons wanted to build a mall where Cohen wants to put a casino and it was shot down. In my opinion if you want to get rid of the parking lot, no other buildings should be put there. It should just be parkland on an elevated deck so cars can still park there. Here's a question though. What happens when it's time to tear down Citi Field. Where does the new stadium go?

Family Office

The Cohen venture is one of several potential bidders for three casino licenses the state earmarked for the New York City area last year. On Tuesday, the state’s Gaming Facility Location Board approved some of the terms for those licenses: A minimum $500 million capital investment and a $500 million license fee.

Cohen said the development would be under the auspices of his family office and not the Mets.

Cohen said he hasn’t lined up a gaming partner for a potential bid. “We’re working on it,” he said. Several casino operators — including Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Hard Rock International — have been scouting locations.

If this is under the Family Office then it isn't under the Mets which the owners of the Mets can be the only ones that build here.

You can read more from Bloomberg.com here.
