Fire at Citi Field Yesterday

What display case is out there? All I see is the CLEAR kiosks that there store there. I am just glad no one was hurt,

From the NY Post

Some 60 firefighters rushed to Citi Field Wednesday — after flames erupted in a display case in the rotunda near the parking garage.
The case caught fire at around 3:45 p.m., officials said. But sprinklers were automatically activated and the flames were extinguished before FDNY even arrived, officials said.
A metal detector was also damaged in the blaze, stadium employees said.

Minor League Baseball to Host Third Annual FIELD Program at Historic Dodgertown

Minor League Baseball to Host Third Annual FIELD Program at Historic Dodgertown
Diverse group of students to receive professional instruction and learn about the business of baseball at former Spring Training home of Jackie Robinson
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Minor League BaseballTM (MiLBTM) today announced that its FIELD (Fostering Inclusion through Education and Leadership Development) Program will take place at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Florida, the former Spring Training home of Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers, from June 4-9.
Twenty-nine students and recent graduates will participate in this year’s event as part of Minor League Baseball’s Diversity Initiative. The FIELD Program was created to engage women and minority students who may be interested in pursuing a career in the business of professional baseball. The five-day program will expose participants to the baseball industry through a combination of professional development workshops, skill-specific training, networking sessions and hands-on learning opportunities.
“We’ve identified 29 young, talented leaders who are eager to break into sports and we have an agenda full of activities that will prepare them for the next step in their careers,” said Vincent Pierson, Director of Diversity & Inclusion for Minor League Baseball. “We have a lot to be excited about with this year’s FIELD program.”
The program’s move is significant, as Historic Dodgertown was the first racially-integrated Spring Training complex in the United States. The facility, which originally served as a World War II naval base, was transformed into a baseball campus and became the spring home of the Dodgers from 1948 through 2008. It is currently a multi-sport tournament venue which hosts the Florida State League’s annual Jackie Robinson Celebration Game. Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier in 1946 as a member of the Montreal Royals in the International League, before his ground-breaking 10-year career with the Dodgers.
Highlighting the 2018 FIELD Program’s list of presenters is keynote speaker, Sam Ryan. Ryan currently covers the MLB postseason for Turner Sports and hosts shows on SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio. Her experiences also include serving as an anchor/reporter for MLB Network and a sideline reporter for ABC Sports and ESPN on Sunday Night Baseball.
Minor League Baseball team executives featured as part of this year’s program are Martie Cordaro, President and General Manager of the Omaha Storm Chasers; Harold Craw, General Manager of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp; Breon Dennis, Vice President of Community Development for the Frisco RoughRiders; Leslie Martinez, Marketing and Promotions Manager for the Florida Fire Frogs; Erin O’Donnell, Vice President of Marketing for the Birmingham Barons; Andrea Williams, Director of Community Relations for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Tiffany Young, Director of Community Partnerships for the Hartford Yard Goats.
Additional guest speakers and presenters for the event include Greg “Kool Papa” Bell, Founder and Presenter of the Five Tool Selling Workshop; Eri Cuevas, Human Resources Manager for the Texas Rangers; Kelvin Scott, Director of Human Resources for the Atlanta Braves; Tyra Suggs, Human Resources Generalist for the St. Louis Cardinals; Jordan Watters, Human Resources Coordinator for the Atlanta Braves and several Minor League Baseball league office staff members.
This year’s FIELD Program participants will gain hands-on experience with visits to the Daytona Tortugas’ Jackie Robinson Ballpark and Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, home to the Jupiter Hammerheads and Palm Beach
Cardinals. Attendees will hear from various club personnel at each facility, and will shadow key departments of each organization throughout their visits.
Career development and preparation will be a key focus for this year’s programming. Resume reviews and mock interviews by some of the baseball industry’s leading executives will ensure that participants know what is expected of them as they look to break into the business of baseball.
Participants in this year’s program represent 24 colleges and universities from across the country. In addition to the programming taking place at Historic Dodgertown, attendees are offered a pathway into professional baseball with an opportunity to expand their networks and compete for job openings at the 2018 Baseball Winter MeetingsTM in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the Professional Baseball Employment OpportunitiesTM (PBEO®) Job Fair. The event gives individuals seeking employment in the baseball industry the opportunity to meet face-to- face with club executives and interview onsite for a variety of available positions.
The FIELD Program Class of 2018 and their respective colleges or universities are as follows:
Earl Burl (University of North Texas), Andrew Calmet (University of Central Florida), Erika Cook (Stetson University), Hannah Craig (Georgia State University), Chelsea Fuqua (University of Alabama), Daniel Gonzalez (University of Alabama – Birmingham), Steven Goudeau (Florida A&M University), Joseph Graves (Georgia State University), Taylor Green (University of Florida), Rohan Gupta (Washington University – St. Louis), Tyshonda Hawkins (Florida A&M University), Nicholas Johnson (University of San Francisco), Hali Liggins (University of North Carolina – Charlotte), Nathalie Lopez (Nova Southeastern University), Kunaal Madhaven (New York University), Candace Martin (Alabama State University), Sierra Martinez (University of Wyoming), Jason Martinez (Virginia State University), Jalen Myrick (John Carroll University), Wynterra Pittman (Virginia State University), Paris Rainey (University of Central Florida), Khari Riles (University of Alabama – Birmingham), Autumn Sharp (Spring Arbor University), Laurie Silverstein (Syracuse University), Keyshawn Simpson (University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff), Kelsey Smith (University of South Florida), Isaiah Thomas (Iowa State University), Carolina Velloso (University of Maryland), T’Kaira Winston (Hampton University).

About the book:
Legendary first baseman Keith Hernandez tells all in this gripping and literary memoir.

Keith Hernandez revolutionized the role of first baseman. During his illustrious career with the World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals and New York Mets, he was a perennial fan favorite, earning eleven consecutive Gold Gloves, a National League co-MVP Award, and a batting title. But it was his unique blend of intelligence, humor, and talent--not to mention his unflappable leadership, playful antics, and competitive temperament--that transcended the sport and propelled him to a level of renown that few other athletes have achieved, including his memorable appearances on the television show Seinfeld.
Now, with a striking mix of candor and self-reflection, Hernandez takes us along on his journey to baseball immortality. There are the hellacious bus rides and south-of-the-border escapades of his minor league years. His major league benchings, unending plate adjustments, and role in one of the most exciting batting races in history against Pete Rose. Indeed, from the Little League fields of Northern California to the dusty proving grounds of triple-A ball to the grand stages of Busch Stadium and beyond, I'm Keith Hernandez reveals as much about America's favorite pastime as it does about the man himself.
What emerges is an honest and compelling assessment of the game's past, present, and future--a memoir that showcases one of baseball's most unique and experienced minds at his very best.

Signing will take place on the lower floor. One (1) hardcover copy of I Am Keith Hernandez is included with each ticket.

Any attendee that does not observe rules for signing may lose their place in line or be asked to leave. Additional copies will be available for sale at the event.

Keith Hernandez is a former Major League Baseball first baseman who played the majority of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets. A batting champion and five-time All-Star, Hernandez was corecipient of the 1979 NL MVP award and won two World Series titles, one each with the Cardinals and Mets. He earned more Gold Glove awards--eleven--than any first baseman in baseball history. Since 2000, Hernandez has served as an analyst on Mets telecasts for the SNY, WPIX, and MSG networks and is a member of the FOX Sports MLB postseason studio team. He divides his time between New York and Florida.
Tickets for the book signing are available on Brown Paper Tickets for $28, and include a copy of the book. No photos are allowed with the author, as well as personalized signatures.

Can anyone figure out this Mets team?

I can’t figure out this Mets team for anything. They had depth when they came into the season and now the team is depleted yet again. Folks are complaining about Jay Bruce sucking. Guess they forgot how streaky he is. The Mets should have signed Pitcher A and Pitcher B. How about the vaunted pitchers we had as the “cream” of the crop actually stepped up and pitched well. And im not talking about Numbers 1 and 2. The number four Pitcher was such a pain the Mets shipped him out.

Cespedes- you knew he’d be getting hurt.

Wright- is never coming back.

Frazier- might have walked past Wright’s locker and got hit with bad juju.

Blevins- sucks so far this year because he was used a lot last season. A lot.

There is a real team in there somewhere and hopefully most of the team comes back healthy to prove it. I’m a wee bit fiesty today but I really think these guys can turn it around. If, If! They can figure out how to keep players healthy again. We really do need bubble wrap for these guys.

OABT News: New Co-Host Auditions Happening Now

As they say in showbiz- The Show MUST go on!

by Darren Meenan May 29, 2018 0 Comments

If you haven't heard by now, Brian is moving on from Orange and Blue Thing. I had a great time hanging with him each Thursday night as we talked Mets, and shot the shit with all you fans. Unfortunately as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. I wish him all the luck in the future, and thank him for all the work he put in during his time here.

This Thursday I had planned to bring on Josh Oshinsky (VP of programming for Sports Illustrated) as a guest through Skype. Instead, Josh will now be my co-host for the evening. Josh and I go back a few years now, and I'm sure you'll have a fun time spending the hour with us. He has some big news to share, and what better way to do that than over a few beers live on a Thursday night.

After that. I do want the show to go on. I look forward to it each week, as I know a lot of you do too. Thursday's have become my therapy to an extent. Sip a cocktail, let loose, vent about the last week of Mets baseball, give some free stuff away. It's fun. I like fun. Let's keep having fun.
But. I need a co-host.

Here's where you might come in. If you think you have what it takes, here's your shot. I'm not looking for any specific type, but there are some things to consider if you want to apply.

- Be a big Mets fan
- Somewhat know stats and stuff
- Be funny
- Be available every Thursday night out in Hauppauge
- Be willing to take the show on the road
- Obviously have a clear speaking voice

Send a 2 minute or less video to darren@the7line.com. You don't have to go overboard with it. Even selfie style on your cell phone is fine. Hit me with the basics. Name, age, where you're from, why you want this job, what can you bring to the table. Anything you think I might wanna know about you.
Yes, it's a paid gig. If the shoe fits, I may even have some work for you outside of the show. One thing at a time though.

I'll be interviewing the prospects and trying out the best ones on Orange and Blue Thing. As the process comes to a close we'll be broadcasting a live show from Mulcahys where a new co-host will be hired.

Orange and Blue Thing News

You guys know by know  I help out  behind the scenes on some of the tech stuff with OABT. The first show was the Darren, Brian, and myself at Darren’s house set up at his bar. It’s been almost two fulls seasons of doing the show with the guys and to see where it started from to where it is right now to where it will keep going. Brian it was a pleasure working alongside you. Good luck out there buddy.

From Brian Erni

“It’s with my sincerest gratitude that I’m announcing that, effective immediately, I’ll be leaving my hosting role on Orange and Blue Thing, and editing and writing duties at The 7 Line blog.
The show was a part of my life since December 2016, and it provided me with so many wonderful experiences. I’m proud of my involvement in its production, and I will miss sharing a piece of myself with all of you on Thursday nights. I want to thank every single person who listened, watched, or called in. The time you invested in me is time that you could have spent elsewhere, and I’m honored that you chose to let me into your life.
The blog, which was revamped in September 2017, was a great creative outlet for me, and I’m confident that the writers who remain will continue to bring you excellent news, analysis, opinions, and laughs. My thanks to Tim Fitzpatrick, Tim Reilly, Nick Giacone, and former writers Alyssa Rose and Allie Ditkowich, who all allowed me to be a part of their process and craft.
The Mets organization has been wonderful to me, as have our sponsors and partners, like New Balance, Lumberlend, CLEAR, and ZipChair, to name a few. I want to thank them for their confidence in our show and their support.
And of course, thank you to Darren Meenan, who two years ago, asked me to be a part of this. I’ve have incredible opportunities, and met wonderful people, all of which have come from being a part of The 7 Line. For that, I will be eternally grateful.
Good luck, God bless, and most importantly: Let’s go Mets!”

Game Used Ron Gardenhire Jersey

1982 NEW YORK METS ~ RON GARDENHIRE GAME USED / GAME WORN JERSEY

WORN BY THE FORMER METS SHORTSTOP & CURRENT DETROIT TIGERS MANAGER

FANTASTIC & HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE EARLY 1980s METS GAMER
About this jersey...

This auction is for a highly collectible New York Mets game used jersey worn throughout the 1982 season by former shortstop and current Detroit Tigers Manager RON GARDENHIRE. "Gardy," who is best known as a coach and manager of the Twins (1991-2014), was the Mets shortstop from 1981 to 1985.

This jersey is from the last year of the Mets' 2-button pullovers (1978-1982). It is a white home jersey with blue, orange and blue alternating stripes along the neckline and both sleeve endings. The classic script Mets logo is sewn across the center in blue tackle twill material, bordered by orange. Beneath the team logo is Gardenhire's number 19, sewn on in the same 2 layers of twill.

Inside the neckline are:
1) the authentic Rawlings manufacturer tag only found on Major League gamers, which contains the wash instructions as well as the size of the jersey (40).
2) the embroidered strip tag that reads: 19 82 1 (player #, year, set 1)
3) the set flag tag that reads "Set 1 1982" (this is amongst the first set of jerseys issued to the players in 1982)

The back contains a large # 19 in the center, sewn on in royal blue tackle twill material, bordered by orange. Above the number is the name GARDENHIRE, sewn onto a nameplate that is affixed to the jersey.

The jersey is original apart from the nameplate, which is a 100% accurate professionally done restoration (the Mets commonly stripped nameplates off of their regular season jerseys after each year in order to recycle them through the minor leagues). The jersey shows very heavy use throughout, with letter and number puckering, tag wear, dirt staining, and thread wear. It is fantastic Mets collectible jersey, and would make a fantastic display piece!!!

Where did the money go for the Memorial Day Unis in years past?

So before this year's announcement, where did the money go and how much of the royalties were given to the causes? Does anyone know?

1962 Mets Jersey on eBay

Not going to lie... wish I had 4 grand just laying around to buy this.....

1962 Mets game used jersey worn by #23 Joe Christopher in the inaugural season. Jersey is in great condition except the front York has been faded a little. Jersey had a team initiated number change to #56 for an unidentified player, probably in spring training 1963.

Mets flannels are tough and this is the holy grail of Mets jerseys. When will you see another '62?

Amed Rosario debut ball

I acquired this ball from my buddy Justin who decided he didn’t want it after purchasing it. I took it off his hands and put it with my other game used/signed balls until I could get it signed. Finally got it signed when Rosario was at Steiner Sports in Roosevelt Field a few weeks ago. Would have been great if it was a ball during his at bat or a play he made in the field.

@mets: Cleveland asks you to wait for an At-Bat to finish

Just saying....

Thanks Dennis... We need these things at Citi Field.

S2 E21: Mets win the homestand, but end on a sour note.

Jose Bautista is a Met, the team wasted another deGrom gem, Davey Johnson has a book coming out, MLB revamped their Memorial Day gear, and the guys give away some free stuff.

Have we found out where the donations are going for the Memorial Day Unis/Merch?

My cousin Shannon from over at Metspolice.com pointed this out to me.

Looks like we might have finally got an answer about the donations from the unis/caps being worn on Memorial Day. There was quite a few of us over the years asking about this. Where was the money going? No one ever had an answer. You can also read a post about this from last week here.
In March, baseball’s vice-president of social responsibility, Melanie LeGrande, reached out to James Wright, the former president and a professor of history at Dartmouth College. The subject: How baseball might more accurately capture the significance of Memorial Day.Starting in 2008, the sport had used proceeds from sales of Memorial Day commemorative apparel to fund the Welcome Back Veterans initiative — a worthy cause, but one only loosely tied to Memorial Day, which honors those who died in combat.By aligning with two new charities for this Memorial Day — charities supporting children and families grieving the loss of a service member — baseball is responding to criticism of its previous efforts and showing a better understanding of the holiday. The charities baseball selected — the Tragedy Assistance Program (TAPS) and Folds of Honor Foundation — will receive 100 percent of the royalties from the sales of Memorial Day apparel, league officials said. Royalties are the amount of money baseball receives from a licensee for the use of its marks; they are correlated to sales, so the more merchandise baseball sells, the more money it donates. The sport has pledged a minimum $500,000 collective donation.“They let us know that they felt Memorial Day belongs to those who served and died,” said Diana Roday Hosford, the vice-president of sports and entertainment for TAPS. “They wanted to recognize organizations that supported the surviving families left behind after a life of selfless service and sacrifice.”

What Happened last night to the Mets?

It was 1-0 Mets in the 8th inning when I had to turn in last night. I was like the Mets should have this without a problem. I was wrong. What is going on with Familia. Shouldn’t we as Mets fans be able to go,” Jeurys is in. We got this?”. What happened to the Mets sharing the closer responsibility? Should Familia be moved into a 7th/8th inning role and one of the other relievers be slotting in to close out the game?
I honestly have no idea what to do at this point. You folks have any ideas? Oh yeah. Hey offense wake up too! One run a game isn’t going to help this team win. I know. No Frazier. No Cespedes. But there are enough major league hitters on this team that should be able to get the offense going.

Dole whip spotted at Citi Field?

This could be a game changer for some folks that dream about having dole whips in Disney World. I can see certain friends of mine pushing through folks to get at this. Have you guys ever had a dole whip? No? Know what it is? No? What is wrong with you?!?!?
From Wikipedia
Dole Whip (also known as Dole Soft Serve) is a soft serve pineapple-flavored ice cream created by Dole Food Company in 1986.
Dole Whip has achieved a cult following among Disney park-goers. Disneyland and Walt Disney World serve Dole Whip by itself, or with Dole pineapple juice. The latter combination is called a Dole Whip float.

Is there room enough for two Joses on The Mets?

Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista. Former Mets. Former Blue Jays. Current Mets. Teams have a need of older veteran players to help round out younger teams to help with leadership and experience. Now and then those players might come through in a big spot like they did in their prime. If 2010 was prime time for these players were are now at the time of the tv programming that’s late night tv. Which one of these programs get cancelled first by the Mets?
Jose Reyes- this one crazy guy with 18’different twitter handles calls you the virus. The Mets keep saying how great of an influence you are on Amed Rosario. Maybe it’s time to cut you loose and reassign you to being a special infield coach so you can still be around the team for Roasario. Just a thought.
Jose Bautista- how well can you hit off the bench? Do you have a mindset where you can be a pinch hitter and now and then subbed into a game.
Who do the Mets gave in their system that they can bring up to beef up the OF or SS/3B backup positions? Anyone l? Bueller? Bueller?
Who do you guys think should be here?
