Syndergaard, Tunnel Vision, and Yelling at his Mom.

I wonder is his Mom brought the thunder and lightning down on him. I can't picture him yelling at Frigga or Jord  and getting away with it.

From the Player's Tribune
Now, I’m not proud of what I said, but I just kind of blurted it out.“Mom,” I snapped.Shut up!I knew it was a mistake as soon as I said it because … man, the way my mom looked at me — her face changed, like, Did he really just say that?It was probably just a case of me being a punk kid and copping an attitude with my mom. But it also could have been that maybe I was still a little mad at her for making me play baseball in the first place. It was all her idea. When I was seven and she first asked me if I wanted to play, I told her no. I didn’t think baseball looked all that fun. I wanted to play soccer. She signed me up anyway. Then she and my dad took me to Walmart to buy me baseball gear. We were standing in one of the aisles looking at cups — you know, like jockstraps and whatever — and my parents were talking really loud about the different kinds of … protection. Everybody in the aisle could hear them.I was so embarrassed that I threw the biggest fit you can imagine. I mean like a full-on, seven-year-old kid screaming, stomping and crying his eyes out fit. It was ridiculous.

Mets Replica Jersey with Jackie Robinson Patch

This came in the mail yesterday.

- The 42 Patch is one of the old school traditional style patches and not one of those plastic/rubberized ones on the authentic Jerseys. I prefer this old school approach over the new patches.

Dom Smith Debut Ball

MLB Authentication #JB881773

On 08/11/2017, Dominic Smith made his MLB debut for the New York Mets at 1st base. This baseball was collected and authenticated during that game.

Dominic Smith was the 1st round, 11th pick in the 2013 draft. At only 22 years old, he is rated the #2 prospect to play 1st base, according to the 2017 prospect rankings published by the MLB. He was invited to represent the USA in the 2016 Futures game.

Smith is known for his advanced hitting approach, expected to hit for high average and low strikeouts. As the Mets traded away Lucas Duda, 1st base is expected to be Smith's, as he is noted for his outstanding defensive ability.

Among players who began their major league careers with the Mets, only Mike Jacobs (11) and Ron Swoboda (10) hit more homers than Smith in their first 33 games.

The “Old” Metspolice is back!

That’s right! Shannon went to a game and he is complaining about the bad views in the uppers again! This is what I missed about my cousin’s site. Now he called out Chris Brown. I know Chris Brown, Chris is a good guy who does care about the fans and tries to do the best for them.

Shannon is right though. Some of the Promenade seats in the first row blow. Let’s see if the Mets answer the new leader of #metsfansunited’s call to action.

Mets Opening Day

I was supposed to go to Opening Day yesterday but then got called into work. Man, did that suck. You guys that went look like you had a good time though. From what I could hear/read, everyone had smiles on their faces for the new season even if the weather wasn't optimal. You guys at the T7LA tailgate were great with entering the Game Used/Signed Seth Lugo Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS baseball cap raffle I had set up even though I wasn't there to be able run it. My buddy Randy and my sister Kristine did a great job raising almost $800 for The Browar Education Fund. Anothony Kass look like he went all out with the food again and everyone tailgating in the MTA lot had a good time.

Rusty Staub passed away yesterday on Opening day of all days. Keith Hernandez really took it hard. I get why though. He was very close with Rusty and supposedly just visited him over the weekend in the hospital. Keith even shared some of his fave moments from Rusty here.I am glad the Mets were able to win yesterday for La Grande Orange.

To read the articles from the headlines below, click the links(I am lazy today).

Mickey Callaway off to fast start as new Mets manager earns win in season opener

Calm down there NY Daily News. Come back after 20 games and tell me how my Mets are doing. One game doesn't make a season even though I wish it did.

Let's see some of the headlines from the NY Post now.

Amed Rosario in the middle of everything at bottom of lineup

I would hope so... That's his job.

Two Mets overcome nerves in first Opening Day starts

“I was a little anxious. I wanted the game to get here. And then for it to be raining and they cancel BP,” said Nimmo, the 13th-overall pick in 2011. “Just sitting here and getting ready for the game made things even longer.”

Watch Nimmo from the last QBC. You'll become a major fan.

Nimmo is a good kid. He deserves to be on the team. Plawecki too.

Yoenis Cespedes makes immediate impact in No. 2 hole

Who does number 2 hit for? That's right you show him who's boss...

Mets unveil their own ‘thumbs down’ sign, with results to match

Okay guys let's not try so hard with the Salt and Pepper Shakers.

The Opening Day Tailgate Raffle is over.

Even though I can’t be at the tailgate or game today, my good buddy Randy aka @readtheapple and my sister Kristine ran the Raffle for the Seth Lugo Game Used/Signed Marjory Stoneman Douglas Cap from the first spring training day this season.

We were able to raise a little under $800 dollars to donate to the Broward Education Foundation. I will throw in a couple more dollars to even it out to the full $800.

Congrats to the winner Steve Talvy.

Thank you to Steve and everyone else who participated in the raffle.

Seth Lugo Game Used Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS Hat Up for Raffle

Seth Lugo #67 - Autographed & Game-Used Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Cap

I bought a few of the MSDS hats off auction from the Mets.
These hats were worn Opening Day by the Mets in honor of the Students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas that were involved in that heinous school shooting a few weeks ago. I spent a decent amount of money on them because the proceeds went to charity benefiting those affected by this tragedy. I want to do more.

If I was to do a raffle opening day for a Majory Stoneman Douglas Eagles game Used Seth Lugo and signed hat, with the money raised being donated to the MSDS charity, would you guys enter for it? $10 an entry? Would you guys be in for it? I'll be in the MTA lot hanging with the T7LA so if you want to help raise some money and maybe win this cap, come stop buy. My idea is that you guys bring  $10 bill and you write your name and number on it then drop $10 per ticket to get put into raffle bucket. Sometime during the tailgate, when we feel like we raised a good amount of money, we will pull a a random ticket out and see who our lucky winner is. The proceeds will all be donated to charity for the victims and their families of this tragedy.

Rusty Staub has passed away.

Sad news today on Opening Day. Mets Fan Favorite Rusty Staub has passed away. Rusty was one of my faves when I was a kid because he was one of the few people who had red hair that made him relatable to me. A few months ago is MLBPAA Lifetime Achievement ring went up for auction and I grabbed it because I wanted to have something tangible to connect me with Rusty.

From the NY Daily News

“In every way, Rusty Staub, the beloved Mets' hitting icon, who passed away early Thursday morning at age 73, was bigger than life — a bigger-than-life baseball personality, humanitarian, gourmet chef, wine connoisseur, friend-to-all and, to the fans of Montreal, quite simply, "Le Grand Orange."

Staub died at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Palm Beach, Florida, due to multiple organ failure. He was initially admitted with pneumonia, dehydration and an infection and spent the last eight weeks in the hospital. He would have turned 74 on Sunday.”

Kevin Hart/Mr Met vs Rock and Jock Connection

This photoshop made me laugh pretty hard when I just found it from yesterday.

Mets add METS color to their clubhouse.

The main thing here is I can't believe it took the Mets 10 seasons to add color to the Clubhouse. I am even shocked that the murals show Mets History.

Are the owners starting to come around?

BTW, if you do a tour they tell you not to take pics of the clubhouse, so this is a rarity of sorts.

Baseball and Star Trek Deep Space 9

It’s funny that this article hit Deadspin today as I was just thinking about baseball and Dr Bashir from Deep Space 9. I got to work with Alexander Siddig this year on Gotham and we talked about some different things including DS9. BTW he is a great guy and a true gentleman. But let’s talk about this article since Opening Day is tomorrow. It talks about how non Gene Roddenberry this baseball is in Star Trek.

“But nothing was less Gene than Deep Space 9 somehow managing to integrate human baseball back into its world of the future. Futurism as a philosophy necessitates that something new and great replaces something old, and there are few things older than baseball. But the beloved moldy-oldy bat swingin’ game somehow made a perfect companion for a show about animal nature dancing in concert with the world of the future.

In the future, there is just one baseball, and it sits on Commander Ben Sisko’s desk. He likes baseball, even though it is for all intents and purposes a dead sport. His human comrades on DS9 don’t even have any idea what the hell he’s talking about. But then some wild shit happens. On the first assignment of his new command, Ben accidentally flies into a stable wormhole and encounters aliens who live there. They are non-corporeal, non-linear creatures who exist in one space but also in all times at once. As such they have very little context for linear time. Ben explains it to them by using baseball, a sport in which one thing happens after another:

WORMHOLE ALIEN (manifesting as Jake Sisko, Ben’s Son): Baseball? What is this?

SISKO: I was afraid you’d ask that. I throw this ball to you and this other player stands between us with a bat, a stick, and he, and he tries to hit the ball in between these two white lines. (The Aliens, using figures familiar to Sisko to take form, do not understand) No. The rules aren’t important. What’s important is, it’s linear. Every time I throw this ball, a hundred different things can happen in a game. He might swing and miss, he might hit it. The point is, you never know. You try to anticipate, set a strategy for all the possibilities as best you can, but in the end it comes down to throwing one pitch after another and seeing what happens. With each new consequence, the game begins to take shape.”

When will Jay Bruce end up at First?

I was actually talking to someone about this earlier this week. When do you think the Mets move Bruce to first so they have Conforto, Nimmo, and Cesepedes in the outfield?

From the NY POST
But a lackluster spring training by veteran Adrian Gonzalez, who is attempting a return after missing most of last season with the Dodgers because of back issues, coupled with Dominic Smith’s largely inactive camp, has at least raised the alarm level about the Mets’ first-base situation. Smith played only one exhibition game and has been sidelined for the past month with a strained right quadriceps. He will begin the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
Bruce played 11 games at first base for the Mets last season before he was traded to the Indians in August. His only previous activity at the position consisted of three games with the Reds in 2014.
“If they need me to work on it, then we’ll do it,” Bruce said. “I would work at it and be as ready as I can be. We’ll be all right, though, and if we aren’t we’ll still be all right.”

Yankees pull something that the Mets would probably do.

I had to double check and make sure it wasn’t the Mets.

The Yankees managed to avoid a strikeout with the MLB ahead of Opening Day.

Major League Baseball warned the Bombers that selling brews featuring the mugs of Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton violates league policy, in which active players are banned from promoting alcohol-related products, according to Newsday.

“We were unaware,” a spokesman for MLB said in a statement Tuesday. “We spoke to the club, the club wasn’t aware, either. To the best of our knowledge, they have told them it’s not authorized, to cease doing it.”

Is this a vintage train the MTA is running or is it just getting here for 1964 Mets Opening day?

Photo from the MTA

The MTA will be operating a vintage subway train on the 7 line Thursday as part of its annual opening day tradition in honor of the Mets.
The train, known as the “Train of Many Colors,” will run as an express from 34 St-Hudson Yards to Flushing-Main St, departing at 11:30 a.m. March 29.  It will make it to Citi Field well before first pitch.

Mets Reports, Tests and Shocks.

Callaways's real test is Thursday

NY DAILY NEWS

"There's gonna be unforeseen things that I have never dealt with before along the way. And that's why we hired the coaching staff that we hired," Callaway said at the beginning of spring training. "They're going to have me prepared. I'm gonna ask questions, I'm gonna lean on them on a daily basis."

"I was able to sit next to our coaches. We had discussion after discussion about this situation that situation and I feel prepared going in," Callaway said. "I am really excited about Opening Day. The season as far getting guys ready and stuff like that, making changes is going to be a lot easier than spring training, because you are taking everybody out every game, essentially at some point (in spring games). So that was kind of crazy in itself, just doing that. But we stayed nice and locked in on the things, situations we needed to be thinking about during the game, so it was fun."

STARTERS

Noah Syndergaard 1-2, 2.97 ERA, 30.1 IP, 34 SO, 3 BB
“If he keeps pitching the way I’ve seen him pitch in his three starts, he should win every award; MVP, Cy Young, everything. All he has to do is stay healthy and maintain what he’s doing.” — AL scout
Jacob deGrom
15-10, 3.53 ERA, 201.1 IP, 239 SO, 59 BB
“All he does is go out and compete. He’s got nasty stuff, his delivery is so long and low, it makes it hard on hitters to pick it up. He looked like he is already in midseason form. He’s the guy I’d want in a big game.” — AL scout
Matt Harvey 5-7, 6.70 ERA, 92.2 IP, 67 SO, 47 BB

“By far the best I have seen him in the last three years. He may not have the same stuff he did when he was coming up, but he looks good. That changeup is his best pitch and it’s coming back, the slider is coming back to him. He looks good and his stuff still plays.” — NL scout

Steven Matz 2-7, 6.08 ERA, 66.2 IP, 48 SO, 19 BB

Seth Lugo 7-5, 4.71 ERA, 101.1 IP, 85 SO, 25 BB

CLOSER

Jeurys Familia 2-2, 4.38 ERA, 24.2 IP, 6 S, 1 BS
“Best he’s looked in a while. He’s sitting 95-96, the sink was back on his ball, he’s thrown a couple of (splitters), which he won’t have to throw for strikes when he’s 0-2, 1-2 and the slider is coming. He looks better than he did last year.” — AL scout

@TheRock wants @NoahSyndergaard to slap @MrMet

I would love for Syndergaard to try to slap Mr Met and for this to happen. But instead of the Ump it's Thor. Curt Hawkins finally gets a win over Syndergaard in retaliation for all the stuff Thor has put Mr Met through.

That's from Metspolice.com above. If Vin Diesel gets involved in this tweeting, Shannon is going to lose his shit. I can see him day dreaming about it now.
