Podcast: Orange and Blue Thing Ep 18

The Mets haven't gotten in the win column in over a week, but that doesn't stop the boys from downing some cold ones and talking all things orange-and-blue. Sports Illustrated Films' "Loyal til the Last Out" is set to debut this weekend, and the guys welcome in executive producer Josh Oshinsky for a few final words and some exclusive clips before the national premiere. Plus, some epic rants, an extended Q&A, and all the usual fun. Come hang out, because the mantra remains the same, in good times and bad: LGM!

Co-hosted by Darren Meenan and Brian Erni, our episodes are taped live on Facebook each Thursday night at 6pm. We're a pretty visual show, so if you can, try to catch the live episode next week on Facebook.com/The7Line. For now give a listen and if you're in to it, share with your friends, subscribe and leave a review. LGM!

Mets: My Feelings on The Team

Who saw this coming? A team decimated by injuries. Can't hit. Can't get out of its own way. Mets Twitter all fired up. "it's because no moves in the off season. Sandy sucks. Terry needs to go". I get it guys. Still relax Give it until the second week in May before you set the tire fires. I still think the Mets medical staff needs to be evaluated over the last 10 years. Yes, they are some freak injuries here and there but some of the ones that could be avoided aren't. It seems the treatment schedule is never on point and something that is day to day becomes two to three months.

Did you guys see the BP video of Cespedes yesterday wincing with his hamstring after taking a swing? Guy was doubled over. He was pulled a few days ago because of the injury and you still let him go into the game? COME ON!

Some folks are blaming Harvey for not being "ready" to pitch at any time like a "big league" pitcher. In yesteryear that would be true. In today's game, pitchers all have routines and get used to pitching a certain way in a certain mind set. "Hey Matt, by the way you are pitching today for Noah. What? you were lifting weights? Yeah you'll be fine. You have three hours to get ready."

My cousin Shannon over a Metspolice.com does the Terry Watch Watch. I wonder what level we are at today?

Did Tim Teufel get rehired as third base coach yesterday? Seems like it with some of the plays from Third to Home.

I'm going to DC with the 7line army tomorrow. Would love to get a win there. Also the7linearmy Doc done by SI is debuting at noon tomorrow on MLB network before the game.

Game Used: 2015 NLCS Jersey

Daniel Murphy's game-used jersey from Games 1 and 2 of the 2015 NLCS. In the four-game sweep of the Cubs, Murphy was 9-for-17 (.529) with four home runs, a double, six runs batted in and six runs scored. Murphy went 1-4 with a solo home run in Game 1, then followed it up with a 2-3 effort, including a home run two RBI and one run scored. The jersey is Size 46 and has all the proper patches and tagging. The jersey features the MLB hologram (HZ886571), which confirms the jersey was used during the first games of the 2015 NLCS.

They want 10 grand for this....PASS....

Casey Stengel: Baseball's Greatest Character by Marty Appel

Product Description-

The definitive biography of one of baseball's most enduring and influential characters, from New York Times bestselling author and baseball writer Marty Appel.

As a player, Charles Dillon "Casey" Stengel's contemporaries included Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Christy Mathewson . . . and he was the only person in history to wear the uniforms of all four New York teams: the Dodgers, Giants, Yankees, and Mets. As a legendary manager, he formed indelible, complicated relationships with Yogi Berra, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, and Billy Martin. For more than five glorious decades, Stengel was the undisputed, quirky, hilarious, and beloved face of baseball--and along the way he revolutionized the role of manager while winning a spectactular ten pennants and seven World Series Championships.

But for a man who spent so much of his life in the limelight--an astounding fifty-five years in professional baseball--Stengel remains an enigma. Acclaimed New York Yankees' historian and bestselling author Marty Appel digs into Casey Stengel's quirks and foibles, unearthing a tremendous trove of baseball stories, perspective, and history. Weaving in never-before-published family documents, Appel creates an intimate portrait of a private man who was elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966 and named "Baseball's Greatest Character" by MLB Network's Prime 9. Casey Stengel is a biography that will be treasured by fans of our national pastime.

Goon here- I really enjoyed this book. I think a lot of us as fans of the Mets don't read up on the past. Sure some of us might know numbers and plays but how many of us (besides Greg Prince) can go back in time and relive periods of time in history in a player/manager's life and enjoy it? I never delved into Casey Stengel's backstory as a kid or even as an adult. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read this at the time of my life where I can appreciate Stengel more.

If you fine folks live baseball and never read up on Casey Stengel, you should, and this is the book to do it with.

Mets: Hank Azaria Q and A

Seems the Mets are really getting a lot of life out of the Hank Azaria visit from a few weeks ago. This was on their Facebook Page.

Citi Field: There Is No Consideration For Others

Last year I had a great dialogue back and forth with the folks who were in charge of the ushers about stopping people for coming down to seats during at bats. They told me that the policy was that after the third inning they become strict and don't let folks down. We talked about that more and there was talk about signage among other things to help make the ushers job easier with the fans. The guy who I was talking to through this whole time left to go work for the Devils, which was great for him. He is a really good guy and a fan of the Mets and wanted the fan experience to be good for all.

I haven't met or talked to his replacement yet (which I would love to do, so he realizes that I am not just some complaining nut). It is also the very beginning of the season so I know kinks have to be worked out so I am not going to give him grief. Also the fact that I tweeted about it one night and the Mets DM'd me back asking what the problem was and fixed it. This post isn't going to complain about what's going on with the ushers(they do try to stop folks after the third, I've seen it).No. This is to complain about every selfish person in the fans that can't sit for more then 30 seconds in their seat during a game. One person gets up and leaves. 30 seconds later during an at bat their friend leaves. 30 seconds after that during same at bat another person leaves. JUST WAIT UNTIL THE AT BAT IS OVER. I know you aren't sorry for stepping in front of me during an at bat coming or going down the row, either to go get or come back with you fifth drink of the night. If you were really sorry you would just wait up top or in your seat until the at bat is over. It isn't that damn hard to have some consideration for others. Mrs. Goon who is way more chill then I am got angry and was like I can't take this up and down crap anymore and said let's go stand by the bridge or behind the seats. If she got angry, imagine how I was.

Do me a favor folks. If you go to a game with a friend who doesn't know any better about getting up, can you teach them? Make going to  game more enjoyable for everyone.

Mets: Security Vs Kids Singing National Anthem

This dismayed me to hear this. Wednesday night half the kids that were supposed to show up to sing the National Anthem before the game got stuck in traffic on the bus coming to Citi Field. They were supposed to be on the field at 6:50 pm but got to the gate at 6:57pm. The security told the kids that they couldn't let them on the field to join the other half of the kids already there. Understandable. I get it. The kids were upset by it and being young of course they would be. The thing that got me is hearing the security guard telling the kids, "Don't hate me, hate the Mets".

How the hell do you say something like that to the kids? They got even more upset and said that they won't ever come to a Mets game and they don't like the team anymore. Great way of growing the sport and making fans guys. Even if the kids couldn't get on the field for the Anthem, just tell them sorry we are running on a schedule and it would take too long to get you guys there. Soften it for the kids and then later on go get them some leftover rally towels or something. Now I also heard that they tried to make it up to the kids and let them sing Take me out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning stretch which is fine, but I know these kids won't forget what that security guard said to them.

"Don't hate me, hate the Mets."

Hey Mets, "Don't hate me for posting this story, hate that security guard."

Mets if you want to hit me up with your side of the story, hit me up at Mediagoon@gmail.com

Mets: Roster Moves

Carousel Time--

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 21, 2017 – The New York Mets today announced that they have placed infielders Lucas Duda (hyperextended left elbow) and Wilmer Flores (right knee infection) on the 10-Day Disabled List. Duda’s placement on the 10-Day Disabled List is retroactive to April 20. Additionally, the Mets have recalled infielder T.J. Rivera and lefthanded pitcher Sean Gilmartin from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Rivera will wear #54 and Gilmartin will wear #36. Both will be available for tonight’s game.

Rivera, 28, was on the Mets 2017 Opening Day roster and saw action in four games for the Mets earlier this season going 0-3 with two walks and a run scored. In five games with the 51s, Rivera was batting .286 (6-21) with one double, one home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Last season, Rivera batted .333 (35-105) with four doubles, one triple, three home runs and 16 RBI in 33 games for the Mets. The Bronx, NY native started at second base in the National League Wild Card Game last season vs. San Francisco.

Gilmartin, 26, made one appearance for the Mets in 2017, pitching 0.2 scoreless innings on April 18 vs. Philadelphia. In 65 career games, two starts, in the major leagues, Gilmartin is 3-3 with a 3.69 ERA (31 earned runs/75.2 innings).
