METS RECALL RHP COREY OSWALT FROM LAS VEGAS

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 10, 2018 – The New York Mets today announced they have recalled righthanded pitcher Corey Oswalt from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned outfielder Brandon Nimmo to Las Vegas. Oswalt will wear #55 and be active for tonight’s game in Miami. His first appearance will be his major league debut.

Oswalt, 24, opened the season with the 51s and made his only start on April 5 vs. El Paso. In that outing, his first at the Triple-A level, Oswalt allowed three runs, earned, on five hits in 4.0 innings with five strikeouts and one walk.

Last season’s Sterling Organizational Pitcher of the Year, the 6-5, 245-pound righty went 12-5 with a 2.28 ERA (34 earned runs/134.1 innings) in 24 starts with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League. He was named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Year and was also a Baseball America Double-A All-Star selection. His 2.28 ERA led the league among qualified pitchers and was the lowest for any qualified starter at the Double-A level.

Oswalt was a mid-season and a post-season Eastern League All-Star as well last season. His 12 wins were second most in the circuit while his 1.18 WHIP was third-best.

Added to the 40-man roster following the 2017 campaign, Oswalt participated in his first Major League Spring Training this past spring and appeared in four games, all out of the bullpen. He posted a 2.84 ERA (two earned runs/6.1 innings) with five strikeouts and no walks in his four Grapefruit League appearances.

The California-born Oswalt was drafted by the Mets in the seventh-round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Madison High in San Diego, CA. In 87 career minor league games, 81 starts, Oswalt is 37-19 with a 3.39 ERA (170 earned runs/451.2 innings) with 384 strikeouts.

Nimmo appeared in six games for the Mets and was hitting .333 (3-9) with one double, four runs scored, four walks and one stolen base.
